So, a local church is being forced out of town.

I don't know if any of your remember, but I posted a thread on b.net around Christmas time last year about a church near me that habitually violates our city's noise laws, and if I should formally complain to the police. Well, I did. And apparently many other people have during the time since then, also.

Since they have gotten so many complaints against them, the city is not renewing their lease of the property and they are being asked to leave the city and find someplace else to set up their place of worship.

Part of me feels bad, but on the other hand, they couldn't play by the rules.

Episcopal church that is less than 100 yds from my house.

Our city's noise laws say that you can't make excessive noise before 7am Monday - Friday, 8am on Saturdays, and 10am on Sundays. They would routinely sing their songs between the hours of 5-7am outside or with the church doors open, so the sound projects directly across the street to all houses. We're not just talking about a congregation sing-along; they have an organ, live band, etc.

Exactly. I'm sure the city didn't just immediately throw them out for being assholes, they probably had citations and warnings up to the freaking church bells.

Hey, if they can't play by the rules they get the boot. You don't get to be the exception to the rule just because you're a church.

Don't feel bad about this, they chose to ignore city rules and regulations. They have to deal with the consequences of their actions.
