This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.
I don't really like the idea of fingerprint locking a firearm at all.
I mean, in my limited times where I've had to sign/verify government documents with a fingerprint, I've had to try as many as three or four times sometimes for it to read right and match my recorded print. And then there's the issue of people who's hands are prone to harsh conditions. callouses and scarring can throw these things off.
My left index finger looked like it had no fingerprint on half if it when they took mine for initial records because it was still healing from a rather impressive gash. Now it looks like a normal finger.

Why would you intentionally make your tools less practical to use?

You know how they put electronic locks that fuck around and do stupid shit in newer vehicles over the simplistic, old door locks?

That's why.

That's just  a money racket on the dealer's end. They can sell key fobs for hundreds of bucks when you lose/break one or if it just dies like electronics can do. Contrast that to getting a 50 cent metal key cut from Home Depot.

Though electronic locks make the car a little harder to break in to without breaking anything, which is a plus or minus depending on your view. I had to unlock my old Impala with a flat iron once or twice...

Yeah well I remember a story of a minivan slipping off the roads out here in winter into a small roadside lake thing and killing all 13 people inside because they couldn't get out of the vehicle due to the shorted electronic locks. They just got trapped inside and drowned.

On the less extreme side of things I've also heard one too many stories of those locks malfunctioning or locking people out. Fuck those lock systems, honestly.

Besides. It's well known that the best anti-theft system you can have at this point is just a standard transmission since the majority of people born after the millenials don't know how to shift a gear.

tbh, if you don't have some sort of glass breaking or escape device in your vehicle, you're wrong.
And locked or unlocked, if your windows are up and you go in to a lake, good luck pushing that door open against all that water pressure.

Anybody who tries to push the door open when there's pressure is a dumb.

You wait until the vehicle is submerged.

I actually haven't heard of this before, is it an American thing?

Why would you intentionally make your tools less practical to use?
Safety concerns, preventing accidents and making it so that others can't use your tool to cause harm.

That does make sense. If you don't mind me asking, are gun locker's and the safety on a gun not sufficient?

It'll be banned instantly for annoying the ever-living fuck out of everyone.

Funny thing is that gun isn't even good unless you're on PC.

OT: I feel like the entire gun situation is damned if you do damned if you don't at this point. Guns are so fucking ingrained into America it's clear to me now that nothing we can do is going to curb gun crimes and satisfy gun owners at the same time. Even if the government did want to take everyone's guns they'd never be able to get them all.

Get of my lawn
From a child safety standpoint, I'm all for this. It's something like 2,000 kids died last year from unsecured firearms. 1 is too many. If this locks the guns down then do it. Gun owners only have themselves to blame. Had they been responsible, then this would be an unnecessary invention.

Not that I disagree with your point, but that number's way too high. Even the most progressive research doesn't claim this number to be higher than about 100.
Wait

So you're telling me that more children drown in uncovered pools at home then due to accidental fiream discharges?

Unless you're living in Juarez or some shit there's really no reason to have an unsecured and loaded firearm in your house with a kid around. A safe should be a legal prerequisite to owning a firearm while living with a minor.

Living on a military base I'm required to secure any firearm behind a minimum of three locks -- e.g., a deadbolt, safe, trigger lock, regardless of whether I have kids.

A locked firearm is a useless firearm, and in case of emergency an unloaded firearm is nothing more than an inefficient bludgeoning tool.
That's why you buy glorious Bulgarian new old stock SKS with glorious Bulgarian folding bayonet
Just sand off all dat cosmoline and you're all ready to stab and skewer rioting Syrian refugees

Good fucking luck if you ever need to protect your kid, then. A locked firearm is a useless firearm, and in case of emergency an unloaded firearm is nothing more than an inefficient bludgeoning tool.

Of all the burglaries in America, 7% are violent; of those, 12% of perpetrators were armed with a gun. I'm all for the right to bring lead to bear on those that would intend to do me or my family harm, but I'm also against escalating a violent situation and the insanely high number of accidental discharges leading to injury. Absolutely kids should know how to use a firearm (and more importantly, when not to), but good intentions never stopped a toddler from accidentally shooting himself. If that means people need to maintain positive control of their home defense weapons, so be it -- it's locked when you're away, or in sight while at home.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that electronic locks have been the industry standard in the developed world for years now.
Never in my life have I ridden in a car that wasn't opened with a key.

My car doesn't have a key... in a way.
Push buttons and similar ignition systems are apparently the new trend.
