You either die a hero or live long enough to become Mythic..
This is just me talking about stuff on my mind, turn around now if you don't wanna read a bunch of text.
Put this in Serious to hopefully ward off trolling.

So! As many of you probably don't know, I am a teenager, in High School, trying to get good grades to hopefully get into gaming development or computer engineering, and the more and more I go to class, the more I think...

Why am I learning about this The Great Gatsby when they could be teaching me more important things? Like how to pay taxes, getting a job, buying a home, why am I not learning these skills?

I was homeschooled by my parents for a while, and am still taught a lot by them, and my parents are teaching me how to work in the Stock Market with buying and selling stocks, how to start a business, so on so forth.

MY PARENTS are teaching me more useful information than SCHOOL, the place where you are supposed to learn how to do things in real life.
Why? Why can't school explain to me how to make a good resume? How to work on a business or the best ways to commute to work? Why can't I learn those things?

Sure, knowing some chemical reactions and some abstract math can be useful...but for 1% of the time, the other 99% have you doing basic multiplication, addition, subtraction and division. Unless you are a friggin Rocket Scientist you won't need to know those things.

Which I why I wish that school systems focused on real world information, then had personalized classes that teach you in the areas you need to know for your specific career path
But that'll never happen, because this is the USA, which has a horrible education system.

A large percentage of high schools have some form of economics and personal finance courses that you have the option to take. I personally believe they should be mandatory, and I feel very strongly about that. Anyway, the main purpose of high school is to expose you to a broad range of different disciplines to, hopefully, give you an understanding of the potential courses of education that you'll be capable of taking in college- Where your options really blossom into basically anything you want (With some restrictions). You learn valuable things about your skills, interests, and passions during high school, but you need to be exposed to a lot in order for that to happen. Inevitably, you won't come to use all of what you learn, but it's a valuable process.

I get academics is an important thing, and knowing these things can prove useful in the right situations, but I wish school would put at least a little effort into teaching kids how to live in the world other than 1 + 1 = 2

I'm probably being a little too demanding when it comes to the real world info, but I wish it was at least something that is NOT optional.
You MUST take at least 1 course, that would at least show that schools give a shit.

A lot of school's do this though, mine did. They gave as guidance on resume building and job searching in my senior year. We had good teachers too though, like the ones who actually give a damn about you. What grade you in breh?

Let me correct what I said

I want schools to at least teach some real life situations and skills, not just academic skills. As not everyone's parents are like mine and teach me more.

This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.
Like how to pay taxes, getting a job, buying a home, why am I not learning these skills?
and my parents are teaching me how to work in the Stock Market with buying and selling stocks, how to start a business, so on so forth.
Why can't school explain to me how to make a good resume?
I learned these things in required high school courses in the middle of a fucking farmtown in Pennsylvania.

Why are the rest of you people's schools so fucking retarded?

Because not all schools have the same rules, funding and teacher motivation.

Okay, what if your parents are uneducated, unmotivated or dead?
Same goes for Gaurdians.

Not everyone is taught the same way, so some people will need more education than others.

Which is why there should be SOMETHING in school for this!
Just SOMETHING, ANYTHING! It could be an open session where the students ask the teacher different life questions that the teacher could explain in detail, or have a hands on experience.

Hell, my parents told me to pick out two stocks, watch them and chart the counts, and note all the news that could effect the stocks. Then I can see when the best time to sell/buy and do it at those times. Which then they'll buy them and sell them.
Now THAT'S how you do it! Well...the teachers wouldn't buy the stock, but you can have your students watch some.

Just something hands on, something interactive, something informative ANYTHING!

Honestly I don't even know why it's taught in high school. You're not going to retain any of it because you'll go at least a couple more years without even needing it, especially if you go to college. Barring that there are guides for basically anything you could ever do; and honestly, unless you're getting a 1040EZ or other simple statement you really should be using a professional for taxes, especially when you own multiple properties or fucked up your itemization throughout the year.

Reactionary investment is a terrible way to do it. Your parents are teaching you wrong.

I didn't learn any of that in high school, I  learned it actually filing my taxes. We have such unbelievable access to simple guides for almost any task on the internet, it's kind of silly to complain that you're not learning. Trust me, as someone that learned the stuff you're saying you wanted to learn, when I say it was completely pointless.

I'd rather not learn on a trial and error basis, and why am I going to school when I can learn everything online?
Because school is a hands on experience, something most online guides can't teach. They can introduce you to a lot, they don't have to go into detail, but can give you an idea.

High school is more about competence and foundational knowledge so you can find what you enjoy and pursue it later in life.

When people tell you that high school basically has no impact on the rest of your life, they're right.

So much this. Basically any class I took in high school that aimed at teaching me real-world skills went in one ear and out the other.

I'm pretty sure I've taken at least 3 courses over the course of my life that involved Excel. A few year later, I know how to do next to nothing in Excel.

But yeah, basically the answer is that some things aren't optimal to be learned in an academic environment and most of your classes will help expand your mind a bit. If you sit through the majority of your classes thinking "this is pointless", then you're going to hate college and Computer Engineering might not be for you.

I love it when the teachers teach us things on the computer, or math, and I am very good at it with A-A+

I have been taking side programs to learn coding, and have been going through an old HP computer learning it's ins and outs.

I am very interested in Computer Engineering, but a lot of it I don't need to know.
