Quote
Police said they responded to a 911 call of an armed man in the store outside of Dayton on Aug. 5, and that they shot Crawford after he didn’t listen to commands to drop the gun. It turns out it was an air rifle that can shoot BBs or fire pellets.

The video shows Crawford, while talking on a cellphone, picking up a pellet gun, which was out of its package and sitting on a shelf. His family said he was talking to the mother of his two children. Crawford continues to walk through Wal-Mart aisles and passes by other customers, who do not appear to react to his presence. The Xenia Gazette reports that Crawford passed by Ronald Ritchie, the man who called 911 and told a dispatcher that there “was a gentleman walking around with a gun in the store,” that “he’s like pointing it at people” and the man appeared to loading what looked like a rifle and “waving it back and forth.” (A month later, Ritchie told the Guardian that Crawford never pointed the gun at anybody).
Link

Fucking ridiculous. This murderer didn't even get indicted. Your tax dollars at work!

He was on the phone, and didn't even know what was going on. Also, watch the video. They yelled at him, he spun around, and they shot him.

In that instance the officer(s) should be punished.

Of course they should be. They should be charged as any other murderer would. They fucking got off scot-free, though.

I'm not defending the cops, it's fucking disgraceful how trigger happy they get whenever a black guy is walking around but if he was buggering around with an unboxed air rifle then it's not quite just shooting someone for buying Iced Tea <.<

I bet if they had released the other camera view then it would be easier to tell what happened, but showing someone getting shot to shit by the police isn't mainstream news site material.

Yeah, that's directly Walmart's fault. It's not like he unboxed it himself, it was sitting in plain sight on the shelf. And it wasn't like it was loaded or anything...

Yeah, they are certainly idiots for having it out like that.

And that's also true, but police are trained to treat all guns as loaded/lethal as far as I know. Hence why kids with toy guns and no common sense occasionally get shot down for pointing it at the police.
I think something similar happened here in britbongistan a while back, some idiotic kid pointing a toy pistol at the police and he got BTFO by them. Could have been the USA though, it was a while ago <.<

See, and that's dumb. When you become a police officer, you take the risk that you might die. Your job is to protect and serve, and shooting anyone that's holding a gun-looking object on sight is going to hurt a lot more innocents than criminals in the long run. Even so, you see a dangerous-looking man with a gun? Don't go for the head shot. Don't hit him in the neck. Aim for the leg, or the arm.

I suppose, I have seen reasonable explanations for why they do though <.<
Generally to do with actually hitting the target, centre of mass and all that.

There's a difference between the way a gun is handled. Over the shoulder in your picture is not intimidating what so ever. The way the guy was holding it in the video and the caller claiming he was pointing it is intimidating

Did you completely ignore the video? The cop never gave a warning. He yelled at the guy, the guy turned to face him, and the cop opened fire. The kid never raised the gun or expressed any threatening behaviour.

I don't see any problem here.

Well, the only problem was the guy calling and saying the other guy was waving around the gun when he actually wasn't. Police did nothing wrong as they got a call about a man pointing a gun at people, arrived, saw the supposed weapon, ordered him to drop it, he never dropped it, and was shot

Police are not some super-natural beings that know everything about a situation. They know as much as everybody else and what they are told about the situation at hand. Maybe if the caller didn't say the gun was being waved and pointed then this wouldn't have happened

This is proper rifle handling It's slung over the shoulder and pointing down and not being waved around. Notice that one of them is black. This has nothing to do with race and it's kinda arrogant to make it about it. What this is about is proper gun handling and reporting to police with the truth

There's this new thing called tazers and shooting people in the leg or arm. Lethal force is only appropriate if a civilian's (NOT a cop's) life is in immediate danger.

There's this thing called distance. A taser won't shoot that far. It only works at a couple of feet, like 2 feet. Lethal force IS appropriate if a cop's life is in danger and cops are civilians also and police departments are civilian agencies. Only people not civilians are military personnel

Did you not even watch the video, bro? They were extremely close to the guy. The simple fact of the matter is that the cop didn't even give the kid time to drop the BB gun. He came around the corner, yelled at him, and before the kid even knew what was going on, he was shot.

I did watch the video. No cop is coming to get that close to a guy who has been reported to be pointing a gun around and have an item that looks like a gun in his hands. That's fucking suicide. You wouldn't get up close to the guy if you were there, would you? Of course not

Yeah, I would. Part of being a cop is not being a coward. If the cop would've waited another ten seconds for the kid to register that there was a misunderstanding, he could've avoided murdering an innocent civilian. Don't forget that all the kid was doing was buying a BB gun that Walmart had plainly laid out for any and all to take.
