Pence has generally been able to express decent positions on the topics he's been asked
Could you name me one?

I'm not terribly concerned about their level of respect, given that these men won't necessarily be leading the country.

If one of the presidential candidates has....health issues or just pisses off the wrong people, they would be in charge of everything.

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

Both agreed to some sort of safe zone in Syria, with some differences between them, and his position that the continuation of current policies dealing with Russia aren't effective.

I said they were decent, not good; I'd still argue against him in certain situations, but overall he's done a much better job of stating those positions than his partner (no duh).

And respect is always something I pay attention to when someone wishes to represent the government. Kaine made multiple statements along this line of thought against Trump while consistently acting disrespectful himself both by interrupting Pence and ignoring Elaine's many requests for him to stop.

I liked Pence a lot more but he lost this one.

Trump was his worst enemy here.

Yeah, Pence seems like a nice dude. Even if ya know... he's the very definition of the Rino conservative I dislike.

I like to think that topics are essentially cancelled out when both participants agree with each other--especially when they're both on the correct side of the debate. I'm not sure if you'll find too many people who would be opposed to having a safe zone in Syria--so to me, that's kinda moot. I'd rather focus on where they disagree, because that's when you have to make concrete choices between the two. The Russia thing is whatever.

I realize all you said was that you liked Pence more, and not that you necessarily support him--I certainly feel sorry him, sure. I'd feel sorry for anyone obliged to defend Trump's raving lunacy on his behalf. But the most salient remark during the whole debate was from Kaine: "In all six cases, he's refused to defend his running mate. . .and yet, he's asking everybody to vote for somebody that he cannot defend."

If Pence had any sense, he wouldn't even try.

Unfortunately, he kind of has to as the VP in-running. It was the VP debate, yeah, but the reality of the situation is that it's a stage for two of the candidates' closest proponents to explain and support statements/positions that have been offered by their partner. Pence is more charismatic, it's just unfortunate that he hardly got to exercise it due to constantly having to speak within the confines of Trump's given statements.

Yeah, Kaine definitely won, but that doesn't mean I like him more now; the opposite, actually.

Honestly, Tim Kaine going on the offensive and constantly interrupting Pence, Trump style, might hurt him a bit.

Never looked into Pence until yesterday. Saw some videos. Typical Republican in office denying Climate change and Evolution. Can't even take him seriously anymore.

Pence's record is remarkably backwards and laughable. The fact Kaine didn't bring it up astounds me.

Quote
- In March, Pence signed a bill into law requiring burial or cremation for aborted fetuses.

- Pence said he'd like to "send Roe v. Wade to the ash heap of history."

- Pence signed a 2015 bill permitting Indiana business owners to cite religious beliefs as a reason to refuse service to gay and lesbian customers.

- As Indiana's governor, Pence slashed Planned Parenthood funding, arguably contributing to one county's HIV outbreak.

- During his 12 years as a congressman, Pence voted against nearly every piece of environmental legislation.

- Pence voted to bar the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gases.

- Pence voted for opening the Atlantic up to offshore oil drilling.

- As a congressman, Pence gave a floor speech advocating the teaching of creationism in public schools.

- Pence wrote an op-ed arguing that "smoking doesn't kill."

- Pence has advocated the use of public funds for conversion therapy, a discredited and potentially harmful form of anti-gay therapy.

- Gov. Pence funneled $3.5 million in Indiana's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds, intended for needy families with children, to crisis pregnancy centers, which counsel women against having abortions.

- Gov. Pence refused to comply with Obama administration rules aimed at reducing prison rape.

- As congressman, Pence voted in favor of a bill that would have allowed for the detention of undocumented immigrants seeking hospital treatment.

- Pence co-sponsored a bill in Congress that would have eliminated automatic citizenship for children born on US soil to undocumented parents.

- Pence was one of 31 governors to oppose the resettlement of Syrian refugees in his state, declaring that state agencies wouldn't cover the cost of some social services for Syrian refugees. His behavior earned him a strong rebuke from a panel of three federal judges, including one whom Donald Trump put on his Supreme Court nominee short list.

As far as abortions go... I'm not a religious person, but it just seems wrong to me. I couldn't do it myself, but if others want to, go for it I guess. Now I read an article awhile back, that said killing a newborn is no different, and that was just all kinda of fucked up to me.

Here's one of the videos I was talking about... He doesn't even know anything about Evolution apparently.

It shouldn't. The point of a VP debate is to act as a proxy for your nominee and bring down the other one.

Yeah but the issue is Pence is helping humanize Trump in an "oh that's not so bad when he's around" way. But if you bring up the fact he's just as crazy, if not more loony than Trump, you have issues.

Think I upset some Pence fans on Bungie.net. Been in an argument on evolution for awhile now. Not sure how I should keep going. They bring up the usual. It's too complex, it didn't start from nothing, survival of the fittest is evil, blah blah blah

survival of the fittest is evil
Wat? It's how we as a human race have come to be the apex predator of the world. To say it's evil is to try and put ethics on the very fundamentals of life as we know it. The strong survive, the weak and old die. Period. End of story, whether they like it or not. Maybe not so much with humans nowadays in the basic definition of it, but the animal kingdom yes.

Social darwinism is definitely evil. Survival of the fittest in nature isn't.

While survival of the fittest may not be an evil concept in and of itself, it sure is a stupid and poorly-structured one. Something only an evil or otherwise morally bankrupt person could reconcile with or consider a good idea, because there's no balance or nuance--just pain, discrimination, and waste.

If such a system were instituted by God, then that would make him evil. And no one wants to believe that their god is evil.

Maybe that's what they mean?

The moment you brought god into it, that's the moment I would fundamentally disagree. The world is just naturally cold, as is the universe. No religion can change cold hard facts on how life works.

Government is secular; religion affecting your personal views is one thing, but when you step into that office you set everything aside.

You don't think that if "God" (if he existed) created the universe as-is, he would be evil?

Just trying to understand your disagreement.
