At what point do these things stop being isolated, unrelated incidents of idiocy and start becoming a problem with the religion?

When people, worldwide, stop treating a 2,000 year old book as a code of law and unquestionable truth.

A gay person wanting to be accepted into a religion is like a black guy wanting to join the KKK.

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
Your worth is determined by the enemies you choose.

Christians are not a worthy foe. Although, amusingly, neither are gays.

But there are plenty of hetero Christians that don't believe there's anything wrong with being gay and still are Christian. Can gays not believe the same?

I find this comparison extremely poor.

Then you're missing the point, which is my fault.

Gay people can believe in God inasmuch as blacks can believe in white supremacy. Which is however much they damn-well please.

The point is about acceptance however. While the black may believe in white supremacy, he will find little toleration at a Ku Klux Klan rally, and the same is true with a lot of gays and religious institutions/movements.

Yet, there are many religious denominations and affiliations that accept homosexuals and have no problem with them - unlike White Supremacist groups, where you will find little such thing for people of color.

Hence the poor comparison.

it's well known that many religious people interpret their particular holy book in ways that conform to their pre-conceived values. taken at face value the bible literally says that homosexuality is a sin and an affront to god.

If I was gay and didn't want to have to force myself into celibacy I would find a different god to worship.

Not quite. Many religious denominations have begun, to some extent, accepting homosexuals.

The ones that don't, however, are simply much louder with vocalizing their disagreement.

Are you speaking globally? Or just in terms of the West?

Not to mention, these acceptances are a result of the hammer-blows of modernity. They are not of the virtues of religion.

I'm not sure, been a while since I've cracked my bible open. Is there any scripture that says tolerating gays is a sin? If not that would imply that it's OK to tolerate them but that they'll got to hell if they keep porking others of the same sex.

Has god told you this or are you just projecting your values onto an idealized deity?
In just saying that, if I were the God of the universe, I wouldn't give a shit.

When people stop reading the bible and simply buy into what any Preacher says. I think I've made it abundantly clear what Christianity is truly about: loving people and loving God.

You don't go to Hell for "being gay". You go to Hell because of sin.
Performing homosexual acts is seen as sin. So, performing the acts.

Do we all have sinful desires? Heck yes we do. We're all sinners. The only reason people get to heaven is because of Christ's forgiveness, not because we did the right thing enough.

There will be many people who were Gay, in Heaven. There will be many people who were drunkards, abusers, anything under the sun. Why? because they repented. Nobody is beyond forgiveness.

Don't even try that, you read my thread detailing my beliefs. They aren't something I made up, they are straight from Jesus' Greatest commandment. A "greatest Commandment" trumps all others.

Quote
Matthew 22:36-40
Jesus replied: β€œ'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

something something judging is a sin
In righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour. Leviticus 19:15

Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. John 7:24

But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 1 Corinthians 2:15

For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person. 1 Corinthians 5:12-13

Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?. 1 Corinthians 6:2-3

So what of all the passages that contradict that?
