Half of what he says makes sense, and I tend to agree with it.  The other half is what is described in the OP.

Although it sounds rash, its not completely wrong. If the child grows up to be just like his father and his father is a major asshole, the trend is continued. A chip off the old block if you will. Then you have children that strive to be nothing like their father, because they recognize his character flaws.

I recognized my father's character flaws when I was very young and done all I could to not be like him.
