Yeah, there's pretty much no religious classes in public high schools in the US. *Some* have a religious history elective, but that's about it.

Well in the US, the government is not allowed to give preference to any sort of religion so tax payer money can't be spent on that kind of stuff. The most you'll be able to get is religious history like in California where I believe it's a requirement to at least learn the basics of the three Abrahamic religions and how they affected western society as part of your middle school world history class.

I don't know how other states handle it though.

That happened as a knee jerk reaction to the 9/11 attacks. Even though President Bush did come out and try to tell people not to blame Muslims for the attacks and not to discriminate against them certain political and religious groups used the opportunity to push their fucked up agendas by using the FUD surrounding Arabs and Islam at the time.

In the US atheists are actually the most discriminated against group as tolerance for all religions has increased quite a bit in the last 30 years. Though nobody actually talks about the discrimination against atheists because the people with the largest megaphones are the ones who discriminate against Muslims.

If a kid wants to learn about Creationism bad enough they can look it up on Wikipedia. As long as the public school system is state-run I don't think religion should be taught.

Top 5% public High school in the nation(or something) taught us quick over views of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism during 9th grade World History. Quality right there.

Evolution has been proven a fact, we've witnessed it in some species of moth.

Creationism should only be taught in a Religion class and only as how religions self interpret it, not as a fact like a lot of American schools teach it.

I don't see why it's a problem for them. They have whole institutions built just for religious education - it's called church.

I don't see scientists wanting to push their way into churches.
