As a firm proponent of reducing carbon emissions to reduce our effect on the environment, I want to acknowledge that this is kind of a good point. But I don't really see how a physicist is qualified to make an authoritative claim about the veracity of community consensus.

Also the fact that we can't really say what the optimal temperature for Earth is is no reason to go, "Yeah, no this is good".
