This is all silly. We don't morally or legally require human drivers to perform stunts to avoid collisions of any kind. If a collision is imminent and unavoidable, then you simply STOP as quickly as possible. That's it. Moral debate over. (And if the brakes all fail, turn off the engine and engage the parking gear). The only truly immoral thing in these scenarios is allowing a non-conscious machine to become a moral agent at all. THAT'S the moral problem here. The only moral solution is: don't let machines make moral decisions. If you can't not hit something, then slam on the brakes. End of story.

Also, I'm more inclined to believe the "Moral Machine" is more of way to collect data on who people are willing to kill.

Pretty interesting judgement thing, although I don't get why the descriptions are hidden for every panel. For most scenarios I chose to save people by this (in order of relative importance):

The many > The few
Humans > Animals
The young/healthy > The old/unhealthy
The successful > The unsuccessful/criminal
The legal > The illegal

Though with the few scenarios where it's exactly the same it's The pedestrians > The passengers. Sure the scenario says all the passengers will die if they smash into a barrier, but in reality there's the chance that even if it was going at 90mph, at least one of them will survive, compared to all the peds guaranteed to die at such speeds.

quick note, never kill your engine. You lose power steering then.
Just downshift and use the parking brake, don't shift an automatic in to park, you're likely to just break off the little mechanism that engages to lock the trans and now you're extra screwed.

Especially an innocent child vs an innocent adult. Children don't get special importance when it comes to morality because of their youth. There's nothing immoral or innocence-reducing about existing longer than someone else.

You'd have a point if people existed in a vacuum, but the continued existence of civilization itself requires certain groups of people to be given more protection and "valued" more than others. You don't send all your women to war because that kills your ability to reproduce, and you don't let your children die because that undoes all your work on reproducing, and a society that does not reproduce dies out:

The continuance of civilization is kinda beyond the scope of this experiment though, right? It's silly to give children or women a higher value in these scenarios, because nothing is at stake that is affected by the potential number of deaths. If anything, a utilitarian argument would be that productive adults are much more valuable to society than children are.

Though I do believe that the Moral Machine and similar Trolley Problems aren't very useful thought experiments to begin with.
