The term "melting pot" came from a time where the idea would now be considered racist because "Muh cultural appropriation". You have intensely strict immigration and you let in only those who were deemed a net gain on the country, and you assimilate only the benefits of the culture they came from. That was the melting pot, not this morphed....something we have now.

On a kind of off note, I think our generation (and gen X) will be more divided probably on political ideology and what not, than Baby Boomers.

I also am weirded out to think we'll be seen as the backwards idiots by the time we're in our 40's. Baby Boomers were known as the hippie liberals who hated war and everything.

And for the longest time we did and it was great until it got out of hand. To keep with the cooking analogy, you can keep adding stuff into the pot to cook but you can't take it out once it's in. Moderation is key and throwing everything in unfiltered is a recipe for disaster.

I'm distracted right now, but I'll answer your entire post a bit later. I can answer the last bit though.

Those who voted to leave and were INFORMED, I have no problem with. I don't have a problem with people voting for whichever issue if they actually know what they're voting for, do their research, and come to their own conclusion. Heck even people who voted to stay who didn't do their research should be shamed on if you ask me.

Voting is a big deal, and I don't think enough people take it seriously enough. It's a responsibility you, the citizen, have the right to exercise. You have a voice in who leads your nation, and what policies you set. If you don't take that serious enough and do research, I honestly don't think you should vote.

I've always held the belief that an ignorant and uneducated vote is just as bad as not voting, and I don't think everyone SHOULD vote. I dunno if I'm alone on that, but yeah. The American notion of "get out and vote" is flawed if you ask me, because it helps people treat it like a damn sports team you're voting for. People should promote learning the facts, and learning the issues at hand, and come to their own conclusion on what they stand for.

When I could vote for the first time, I did. I know my voice isn't always heard, but I always cared about what I was voting for. I am annoyed there is a strong apathy towards the vote for young people.

I am glad in a sense that over here, Bernie and Trump got people caring about politics. I just wish it wasn't as rotten as it was.

We made our restrictions more lax since the 20's I agree with you there, but we used to have very tight rules before WWII on who was allowed in. Are you in good health? Are you able bodied? Can you speak English? Etc etc. if you said no to any of these, you weren't going to stay on Ellis Island very long.
