It's an interesting idea, executed very poorly.

It could be helpful for examining and comparing abuses of power and the like, but it's also liable to (And indeed did) cause some serious rustling.

It's not the teacher's place to impose their personal views on their students in a graded assignment.

EDIT: However questions like these are what get people's minds churning. Honestly I think a better assignment would be to compare U.S. foreign and domestic policy to that of the Third Reich.
