Never has there been so much truth to the saying "misery loves company", in regards to verbatim. It shows a severe lack of emotional and intellectual maturity.

And if you drink just for the flavor, then you're just... stupid.

Most drinkers tend to agree with me, believe it or not.

I do, for the most part.

I drink, smoke weed and take ecstasy (like, way too much over the past few days) as a form of escapism.

But, I think you approach the issue in a way which isn't conducive to discussion--given that we're talking about something which is usually either seen from the perspective of "having fun" or a serious addiction, the sufferer of which you're calling a moron.

If it hasn't already been made clear why I get so angry about this subject, it's because I've been surrounded by drunken idiots my entire life--from my peers, my close relatives, and my own mother.

When part of the majesty of life involves witnessing people you care about turn themselves into unapproachable, maudlin, and incoherent messes, because their life sucks too much without having that temporary transformation, it kinda grates at your fucking soul a little bit, as a person who considers himself "above" such stupid shit.

So maybe I let my emotions get in the way of this subject too much. It's something I need to work on, and honestly haven't been putting too much effort in changing--because, frankly, getting pissed off at drunk idiots is just too much fun. But I'm glad that we don't necessarily disagree at the heart of it all.
