I don't necessarily mean that if you disagree with me, you're valuing the wrong things. I'm saying that a lot of people, which value something, confuse that for the valuation of something else. This was sparked by Nasty's thread about radical opinions.

Here's one example - people value democracy. Except, people don't, or at least shouldn't, value democracy in and of itself. Democracy, I imagine, is valuable to most people because it seems to ensure some form of liberty. Therefore, it seems, a confusion of political and civil freedoms is what leads to people valuing democracy incorrectly.

Another is income. We don't, or at least shouldn't, value income - and accordingly the disparities between it. No, what we really care about is consumption, and a confusion of income and consumption often leads people to attack wealth disparity in itself.

Can anybody think of any more examples?

I don't understand people that value family above all else.  There are members of my family that I don't even know.  Would I stick up for them or take a bullet for them?  lolno.  There are only six people in my family I genuinely care about.
