Trump has gained a massive following for a variety of reasons. Ignoring the "Well he's not Hillary" voters, the thing that really fascinates me how by deviating from the standard politician guidelines he managed to rally so much support. Most people against Trump are completely baffled at how he managed to get this far, but the answer is simple.

People are frustrated with the status quo. Politicians have been established as being one of the big reasons for most of our problems in government, because they're self serving, never get anything done, and it constantly seems like they're working against the well being of the country. Well hey here's Trump, and he's not a politician, and he's very clear that he actually intends on getting things done, and fuck what anyone that opposes him thinks. He's extremely appealing to people who are done and fed up and don't care about having tact or what they might call being "PC". Does he need to go into detail about how exactly he plans on accomplishing anything? Nah, it's not important. What's important is that he has you reeled in on the feelings of frustration alone. He wants to Make America Great Again. He's a businessman, and selling you a feeling for a product (in this case, his presidency) is what he does best.

I must emphasize that this is not considering the people who support him because they think Hillary is worse. Trump and Bernie supporters are what one might call opposite reactions to the same problem, but fact is that these two groups ended up having more in common. Trump being more nationalistic, and Sanders being more people focused. Trump being appealing because he actually sounds like he's going to get stuff done and doesn't care what people think, and Sanders because he actually sounds honest and genuine, like he cares about each individual person out there. But both groups are sick and fed up with politicians and the status quo.

And even though Sanders failed to get the nomination he did get almost half of the entire democratic vote and has changed the democratic party just as Trump has changed the republican party. There's also people that agree with what Trump campaigning for on a more educated level, and discussion is free to go there too but that isn't the demographic I'm talking about. The point of the thread and where I'd like to see the discussion is this: Trump appealed to what would've previously have been thought of as a fringe demographic of people (something which Bernie did too, along with the massive following of idiots) but it exploded.

So...let's talk about that?

I think the main 2 thing in trumps favor are people are fed up with the establishment and that Hillary Clinton is easily one of the most disgusting human beings in American history

Hillary Clinton is not the focal point here, because Trump was ramping up support like crazy long before the Republican debates were over. And besides that, in that phase it was other candidates railing against Hillary, not Trump.
