Just saw a post on Facebook about a celebrity complaining about taking his daughter to the beach in Santa Barbara. She got oil on her feet, and he personally blamed the executives for animal deaths and his daughter being scarred for life.

Of course, this is probably after he drove his gas-powered car, typing on a computer and living in a house powered by oil and coal, in between tours where he flies on jets that burn a hundred thousand pounds of fuel each day.

It's so easy to bitch about oil because it's dirty and dangerous and makes people rich, but oil spills happen, often by no real fault of anyone in particular. I'm all about nuclear power and less reliance on oil, but oil is never going away, at least not in the foreseeable future. So let's be adults about disasters, and instead of shaking our fists at rich executives, deal with our problems with as little hypocrisy as possible.

I think I saw a report somewhere that said something about G7 leaders agreeing to faze out fossil fuel use by 2100.

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
I was thinking about something similar earlier. Anybody remember that Youtube video where that long-haired hippie fuck in a classroom was having a go at a teacher for not "inspiring" her students or some shit like that.

What a load of idealistic horseshit, honestly. Teachers aren't there to inspire you and give you some great motivational epiphany for you to succeed in life, they're there to teach for fuck's sake. My grades, for instance, aren't as good as they could be because I'm lazy. I can't revise because it bores me to tears and I don't have the willpower to make up for that, and it's my fault.

Why can't people just sit the fuck down and take some responsibility?

Unless batteries magically increase in efficiency by a hundredfold, it's not going to happen.

That'll be too late to stop runaway climate change, anyway.

We always say to fight fire, you must use fire. This is wrong. Fighting fire with fire will leave scars and a new flame will rise. We must instead use water. It is the opposite of fire, it extinguishes the fire, it cools, it refreshes, it heals. We are made up of 70% water, we are not made up of 70% fire. Please practice what we truly are

That's...tooo long to wait!

Or how about the fact that school is boring and useless as fuck?
It's hardly the teachers' fault for not being "inspiring", though.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
Well, it kinda is their fault.

Deep sea drilling has only gotten deeper as the shallower reservoirs dry out and new ones are found in less economically viable areas (now made more viable due to the scarcity of oil), but while the the methods for drilling have imprived greatly to access them, methods for preventing blowouts has relatively remained stagnant.

I can't say much for the transport of oil as freak accidents can happen and companies have tried to mitigate that with better navigation and double/triple sealed hulls, but blow outs by far are the worst causes of oil spills, so they should kinda focus on it.

That said, it is hypocritical to denounce oil, even now as most of my phone is made from plastic and powered by electricity, of which some has come oil fueled power stations. That doesn't mean I or anyone else criticising it is entirely wrong however.

the problem with the infrequent and unusual oil spills is that it's never just a little spill where someone is held accountable and it's relatively inconsequential to the surrounding environment. It's always big fucking spills that kill tons of animals and ruin their habitats. It's also angering that we can't simply clean it up and undo the damage. You can try to contain it and get most of it cleaned up, but you can never get it 100% out. And the companies responsible for it are so fucking wealthy that any monetary recourse is of relative unimportance to them in comparison to their yearly profit.

that's why it's angering.

"Ornate chandeliers suspended from a vaulted ceiling lit the spacious chamber; Jack tilted his gaze overhead and noticed how far away they were.  His thoughts wove around those bright lights, like a dance of ether masses spiraling in precious unison. Why must we try to clutch desperately for the mere threads of this world when we can clasp onto a tapestry of untold magnificence beyond this plane of existence?"
Nothing wrong with striving for the ideal.

Yet it's true, sadly. Oil as a fuel source will never disappear.
