Let's talk about killing as a form of punishment.

There's a line, for me personally. When you get to the worst of the worst? No. Don't waste resources keeping them locked up for years. Don't give them comforts and care while they're locked up waiting to get a definitive sentence.

You take them out back, and you fucking old yeller them.

And not even that. I want you to imagine this. You've a wife/husband. You've kids. Hell, even just a friend or family. Some person breaks into their home, does some measure of horrible shit to them, and then kills them.

Ask yourself. Would you stand for it? You, personally. Would you let that stand?

I wouldn't. I'd take it on myself to kill them. No other person, no judge or executioner. I wouldn't give a shit at that point. Somebody takes everything away from me like that, with no thought or remorse over it? Unacceptable. Fuck other people dirtying their hands. I'd do it myself.

Sad truth is, some people cannot be fixed. And those that can't? Hit the off switch.

Define 'punishment'.

As a practical means of removing somebody who is of no benefit and serious detriment to society, then perhaps

As a means of "giving them what they deserve", then never, because that's just nonsensical.

It's never justified. If we captured Hitler instead of finding his corpse, we shouldn't have even killed him.

You will find out who you are not a thousand times, before you ever discover who you are. I hope you find peace in yourself and learn to love instead of hate.
yeah im torn tbh. if you commit murder, rape, torture etc etc (basically severe inhumane acts) i see no problem in killing them. people like that aren't able to live in society and why keep them locked up all their lives, imo being locked up for 50+ years is worse than death.

With how many overturned sentences there still are today, it's clear that the judicial system is still too flawed to make such an irreversible decision.

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
These ideas that we "become" killers when we kill them is so bloody facile. We kill people every day, in foreign lands with government-sanctioned weaponry. Intentions matter, and the executioner who takes the life of a murderer will never be as immoral as the murderer himself.

That said, only terrorists should be subject to the death penalty. Not as a form of punishment, but as a way of simply removing undesirable, foreign combatants.

emigrate or degenerate. the choice is yours
Nah I don't think so.

Not because I believe in the whole "stare into the dark and the dark stares back" bullshit, but more often than not, the bureaucratic process to even try and get someone convicted for death row is so astronomically expensive you're better off just locking them up and rehabilitating them if possible.

Killing is bad, yes.

But some exceptions could be made...

Killing is bad but if it's for removing terrible criminals from society it can be justified.

I only support its use on complete psychopaths such as Adam Lanza. Basically, only use it on mass murderers.

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.
It doesn't really work as "punishment". The idea of punishment is to inflict a negative experience on a person so that they'll learn not to repeat their actions in the future. You can't learn from being dead.

That aside, it should only be used in extreme cases where rehabilitation is impossible.

I can't believe how many wimps there are in this thread. "hurrr if you kill and killer ur just as bad LOL"

Removing someone who is a danger to society is the opposite of bad and certainly not immoral. I'd execute murderers myself if I could, ridding the earth of the filth that is the worst in our species would be an honor.

"Ornate chandeliers suspended from a vaulted ceiling lit the spacious chamber; Jack tilted his gaze overhead and noticed how far away they were.  His thoughts wove around those bright lights, like a dance of ether masses spiraling in precious unison. Why must we try to clutch desperately for the mere threads of this world when we can clasp onto a tapestry of untold magnificence beyond this plane of existence?"
You're absolutely right. You're just sinking to their level through execution.

edit: Well, as far as principles go, an eye for an eye isn't the highest moral path. Yet, one can justify the death penalty by various sort of explanations, and the thing is they're not exactly wrong. It's a complicated question, in which the solution really varies on a case by case basis.

It's pointless. Even with capital punishment there are still people committing the same crimes as someone who got put to death. The main problem about it is that you have innocent people who received it and ones that almost got put to death. If that does happen to you once you're dead you're dead. It's not like being locked up in jail and finding out you shouldn't be in there. With death on the other hand you can't change anything about it and go "Oops that was my bad".
