His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.
I'm still not a fan of Common Core; it's touted as the opposite of "no child left behind" while essentially being the same thing. All they've done is swap out learning milestones; and we won't even know if that had any effect for a few years.
Well it's better than doing fuck-all of nothing and hoping to achieve better results, which is what our previous system was.
A better system would to be reducing standardized testing and to allow more freedom in the learning structure. Rigid schedules are the detriment of creative thinking.

But it's also important that those free learning structures aren't too liberal and you find 12 year olds who don't know how to read, which is why a demanding class schedule is important.

Which is why more freedom is necessary, not absolute freedom. A balance is required, I agree. And right now the school system is not in balance.

Just a reminder that common core is basically a vague list of objectives for schools to accomplish in various subjects, not a complete overhaul of teaching methods and curricula. Any viral images of bizarre teaching practices are just red herrings; the real opposition is that it's inefficient in such a broad scope.

Well, apparently my sister is a liar, then, because there was another weird image showing some crazy-ass method to solve some math problems, and she confirmed that that's how they do math now, so...

We always say to fight fire, you must use fire. This is wrong. Fighting fire with fire will leave scars and a new flame will rise. We must instead use water. It is the opposite of fire, it extinguishes the fire, it cools, it refreshes, it heals. We are made up of 70% water, we are not made up of 70% fire. Please practice what we truly are

Your sister isn't completely wrong.. The method is different and many teachers I work with agree its stupid.
