No. Islam represents a unique threat to Civil Society.

Anybody who disagrees is most likely a liberal, severely lacking in threat-detection faculties and unaware of the benefits of parochial loyalty.

Are you implying there's something wrong with being critical of Islam?

Because I think anyone who can seriously defend a philosophy that assigns women the role of property, and promotes violence against nonbelievers who won't pay a tax, has some serious issues.

I think that criticism of Islam is perfectly fine, I have several problems with the religion myself but the problem arises when people lump all muslims in together because of the actions of a particular sect.

It's the same deal with Christianity, although bashing it is much more widely accepted now <.<
You don't scream abuse at a protestant in the street because a catholic opposes abortion.

You want my honest opinion?

At the core religion is not something innate, it's not something people are born with and can't help, it's an idea they have come to accept. An idea that describes a person's whole worldview and thus unavoidably effects their behavior, what kind of morals they have and how they treat others.

So I have to ask, if you can't be critical of ideas, what can you criticize people for? Would you have the same reaction to people criticizing Christians and/or republicans?

Oh, well no shit that happens. But that's to be expected of an uneducated populace regarding any other culture. Especially considering the propaganda role the media played in our last few wars, and Christian preachers and clergy jumping on the bandwagon to demonize the "enemy".

Still, you might as well be saying the west has a big problem with Atheistophobia or Not-Christianophobia. There's a certain kind of person this is an issue with, and there is a generally consistent mindset there.

That's not Islamaphobia so much as bigotry. We don't need a word like Judeophobia or Christophobia because we don't need to lend that much credence to intolerance and bigotry.

The problem with "Islamaphobia" is the fact that it is a charge consistently hurled at the New Atheists and people like myself, when I have no problem with Muslims as people.
