Is Society Afraid of Sexuality?

Question in the title is pretty straight forward: Is society generally afraid of sexuality/sex/etc?

Disclosure: The topic and examples for this thread came from this video, and I'm curious as to what you all think:

Going to use Miley Cyrus as an example (Cause who doesn't love a celebrity as a debate example) - throughout her recent remolding of her image, plenty of people have screamed about how her image is not friendly for children, how she is no longer a decent role model, blah blah blah.

At the same time, we have Taylor Swift winning awards for videos featuring weaponry and fights, and almost everyone enjoys a movie about violence - to the point that we seem to glorify that, over a movie where there may be nudity (Heaven forbid...)

I dunno, I'm tired and probably rambling, but just curious as to your thoughts?

Humans are innately violent, so I'm not surprised we have a certain bias towards depictions of violence.

I don't fear sexuality. I hate it. Primarily for incentivizing procreation, and brainwashing people into thinking sex is this glorious thing. Which, feel free to believe that, but every once in awhile, you should be able to throw that filthy monkey off of your back and say, "Yeah, this is all kinda filthy and gross, to be honest."

I would say subconsciously no, as we use a lot of sexually titillating imagery in the media to sell just about anything.

It is peculiar however, that when it's explicitly brought up a lot of people find it uncomfortable to talk about, despite it being inadvertently plastered in just about every aspect of society.

I guess it has to be subtle in order for it to be acceptable for some odd reason.

It's also really fun so I don't care. Eating is also a horrendously disgusting process when you get down to the crude mechanisms that are allowing it to happen, but I still like to eat tasty food. If you reword or break apart concepts and actions to their base components, you can basically make anything sound like shit.

We definitely are when women can't walk around without a shirt on just like men. It's OK or us to do it but it's something else when a female does it due to a retarded double slandered. I know breasts are not sexual but for some odd reason we treat them that.

Pornography is a good example; basically everyone uses it, but it's incredibly taboo to talk about it in most circles.

There are good and bad attributes to basically every activity we tend to engage in. The important thing is actively trying to balance out or reverse whatever minutely negative consequence a "Fun" activity might have. To say that "Most" people's pleasure is revolved around the three things you listed is pretty inaccurate. People entertain themselves in significantly broader ways, and with a much greater frequency. You just like to pick apart the negatives much more than the positives.

I have no aversion to sexuality (other than what it tries to encourage: sex, and by extension, childbirth). Probably because of the way I was raised; my parents were very open about that sort of thing.

I slowly see it becoming less indecent to discuss sex, though.

"Violence" depicted in blockbuster films is so mundane it's the equivalent of clothed dry humping. When most movies use jump-cuts to instantly look away from people getting shot and instantly falling off screen, it gives the the viewer much less time to react and feel the weight of the event (especially considering they're just joe-schmoes dying, and when a main character dies they usually only have a trickle of blood coming out their nose as they whisper off shitty dialogue then close their eyes peacefully).
