This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
Colonisation has often brought benefits to the colony itself. The problem isn't, necessarily, with the process of colonisation in and of itself, but merely of the nature of imperialism as a whole and the psychology of the imperialists as a whole.

The extension of a country's power through militant means will naturally lend itself to a colonisation policy of repressive measures against both natives and, on occasion, the colonists themselves. And, of course, the point of time in history which spurred most colonisation also lent itself to militant attitudes and policies.

Indeed, great thinkers such as Bertrand Russell, writing in 1915, have defending colonialism on utilitarian grounds of a superior society being better able to put the land to use.

Not to mention, the advances in medicine, while difficult to measure, must be noted. As well as the development of railways. Many societies of savages in Africa hadn't found use of the wheel long into the 1800s.

Has imperialism been bad? Yes. For psychological, political, social and economic reasons. Has colonialism been bad? Yes, on all of the same accounts. Have they had their benefits to the homeland and colonised land? Yes, undoubtedly. Should they be viewed as a consequence rather than cause of their time? Probably.

The question is how you think the categories of benefits match against one another, and whether you think those categorised benefits fall short of, match or out-compete the losses.

"flaming nipple chops"-Your host, the man they call Ghost.

To say, 'nothing is true', is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say, 'everything is permitted', is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic.
Only if the God Emperor of mankind himself leads us. Lest we fall to error.

I.......don't know?

Imperialism is expected by a country but if done in the right (?) way then there isn't a problem with it. For me, I see the imperialistic actions of the Mexican-American war far less severe as the Indian wars because the Indians were on a lower level than America and the playing field wasn't equal. Mexico and America both were both kinda on equal footing so I don't see that as bad

weird.......

Depends. Westward expansion and the English colonization screwed the natives and sucked.

In History class the Imperialism Unit focused on the Spanish-American war, which I didn't think was that bad.

In the west (Italy on to America) it's failed pretty damn badly.

But I can only think of one good example:  China.  If it wasn't for the Qin dynasty storming all the other kingdoms, China would most likely not even exist right now.  They'd probably either still be in-fighting or be absorbed into other territories surrounding them.
