This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
This is actually quite good. In order to balance the budget, you must make £48bn worth of cuts. You have to tick a number of policies which involve spending cuts or tax increases. Policies in red mean you'd be reversing promises already made to protect the funding of a certain service.

Make your way down the list, read the snippets of info and see how much of the deficit you've gotten rid of. The URL changes with each choice, so you can post your results when you've finished ticking the boxes.

I managed to make £26.3bn worth of spending cuts/tax increases, getting just over halfway.

I scrapped the winter fuel allowance.
I cut 10pc from the housing benefits bill.
I froze benefits for the working age population for 2 years.
I cut spending to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland by 10pc.
I abolished the Dept. of Culture, Media and Sport.
I cut 5pc from the international development fund.
I froze the defence budget.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
I ended up with £21.2 Billion.

For the record I would've cut just the Ministry of Sport and cut spending in just England by 10%, but that option wasn't available.

Makes sense to me to rise alcohol and tobacco. Other than the instantaneous cash flow, you're reducing the damage it causes, reducing the pressure and therefore cost on the NHS in the long term.

The other stuff is just because the rich are rich and I dislike that.  :P

Obese people and smokers are actually cheaper to treat.

Where'd obese people come into this? I'm talking about liver cirrhosis, organ transplants, treatment for alcoholics, mental capacity and wellbeing for general life, all that stuff that comes with alcohol. A rise in price means less consumption, and at the very least the tax hike covers the cost of the damage alcohol does.

People get to live longer, meaning they work for longer, meaning they pay taxes longer, and now at a tad higher rate.

Print more money and make inflation illegal.
Simples.

I would like to have a go at the game, how resource heavy is it? Is it like a full on flash game sort of thing? If I click it it might blow up my router if that's the case.

I'm using the term "game" liberally.

You'll be fine.

It's basically a checklist with a moving bar.

Welp, because I didn't want to kill all of the old people and force all of the museums to shut down I managed to make 17b by slashing everything that I didn't give two shits about >_>

HS2 was the first thing to go though.

I'd like to butcher the art galleries though, but not the libraries and museums <.<

The easiest answer is just to cut everything and raise taxes. Therefore I win the game.
