Should we distinguish between mental and physical illnesses?

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
I don't think so, to be honest. I think it's largely the reason people have such horrendous misunderstandings of illnesses like depression and personality disorders. Also, the historical stigmatisation associated with it - mental illness is almost seen like something of an impurity.

So, can anybody see any benefit to keeping the partition?

Simply thinking and feeling
Funnily enough, both of those processes have neurological beginnings.

Somewhat yes, it's a specialisation of healthcare in the same way that one might focus on genetic diseases or endocrinology >.>

The distinction remains because of the different skillsets required for the treatment and diagnoses of many of the different conditions (For now at least) so until we (or if we) reach a point where it's as simple a matter as scans and bloodtests for a mental illness (Which I'm fairly certain it isn't, and never will be) then the distinction should remain >.>

They fall under the same umbrella though; doctors, psychiatrists and psychologists all tend to work together a lot more when it comes to treating the seriously mentally ill.

Legislation wise it is important too, a patient of sound mind can refuse an operation but when someone isn't of sound mind and needs treatment - there has to be provision for that >_>

Yes, they're two completely different beasts, each with their own ins and outs, and should be treated as such.

It's crossed my mind once or twice, but I never put much thought towards it. I generally feel like such a thing would trivialize mental disorders, as if they weren't trivialized enough.

Though, you're absolutely correct in stating that there's a physical basis for mental disorders, and I'm not sure if it's beneficial to the cause to make a distinction just so that the differences are understandable to the ignorant masses.

picture related; if physical conditions were treated like mental conditions:
