I'm really depressed again dammit

I keep having dreams of the day when I found my grandma dead as a kid. I usually wake up after these and have thoughts of suicide by choking, drowning, and suffocation. It might just be a side affect of having been a druggie child. Anybody know a way I can deal with it? (Without going to some goodie-two-dick old ass therapist)

Every therapist I've ever went to has just told me the same thing. I knew it was useless when I first started and I know it's useless now. Therapy is nothing but talk.

I almost died via overdose twice by the time I was 17. I stopped because I didn't like the feel of dying.

I remember having them when I was a senior but never having them again until last week.

They suggested that I keep taking my medication and be around my friends. The problem is the medication just makes me tired and my friends are all on the Internet.

Trauma will never disappear, it has to be worked through or moved past. It seems like the former is unavailable to you, so just keep moving. Increasing your self-esteem is the single best way to get past depression. It sounds cliche, but it definitely worked for me. Join a gym, go out and make some real friends. Get through high school, get a job, go to college...keep yourself busy, and eventually you'll change without even knowing it.

Similiar to what Class and Challenger said, keep busy and raise your self esteem.  Write down realistic goals for yourself and work towards them everyday.  Start out small with something like 2-5 simple ones daily like working out or read for 30 minutes (preferably non-fiction), or if you want more friends/a relationship, set a goal to start a conversation with X amount of people.  What ever it is, you need to make sure you complete them EVERYDAY.   When you do what you say you'll do everyday and you have the proof on paper, your confidence will go up, knowing you can depend on yourself.

i think it's dumb too, but we've had threads in here about users' relatives dying and shit, and they were all moved to the flood

so i mean

Rules in a state of flux. Or thread derailment. One thing I think we can agree on here. Don't throw this out to the sharks. And maybe, the threads that did end up there, shouldn't have.

As I said. In a state of flux. Tinkering and fine tuning are required.

I can't say I know what you're feeling. But I have been through a similar instance. When I was three I was up front and center to watch my father get into a fight with my mother, at which point he punched her upside the head and broke her jaw.

I had nightmares for years afterwards, long, long after it happened. I don't remember my dreams and I don't even know if I have nightmares anymore. But I know that over time it became a less occuring thing and feeling.

As for being depressed? Like I said. The best tool you have is doing something. Occupying yourself. Seeing visible achievment or progress. Beating something in your way.

I don't know your life or how you live. But find something that you can focus on, something that will show you visible progress as you work. It'll give you a boost and a rise.

And if you don't want that, go somewhere new. Take a vacation or some time off. Get out somewhere and visit a new place you've never been to.

That's the best I can give.

I don't want to insult anybody, but there's a difference between talking about mental health issues from an abstract perspective, and "I'm depressed/I'm suffering from anxiety/My life sucks, can you guys comfort me/let me vent/help me work through it".
I don't see how that isn't a serious topic in itself. That's a very serious topic.
