I see no reason to believe in them. I remain open-minded about it, however, since there's a lot of 2sp00py shit out there.

Although, I'm incredibly sceptical, since a lot of it can be explained by psychology and neuroscience. Besides, I haven't seen anything to suggest that something could facilitate the existence of ghosts, let alone suggest that the ghosts themselves exist.

Never seen one nor seen any evidence of one, despite my mother's claims that a little girl's spirit resides in the attic of her house. In my opinion, she's the crazy one.

Belief in ghosts is pretty childish. And that's not an insult, or even a statement against children. We teach children about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy and the Sandman, and while I personally don't agree with this traditional practice, it's indisputable how very fun it is for children to believe in the existence of these characters. The world becomes something out of a fairytale. Then the magic disappears as soon as you learn the truth.

In a similar light, I would go out on a limb to assume that most people who believe in the existence of ghosts are indeed children, because it's fun to believe in such a thrillingly mysterious thing. It posits the tacit implication that there is life after death, and the very thought of stuff like "haunted houses" gives people the chills, similar to the type of chills they get from seeing a horror movie. It's fun to believe in ghosts. It's like playing pretend. It's like you get to keep a little piece of that childhood naivété in your psyche.

For a lot of people, the prospect of a universe with no magic or mystery in it is a very depressing one.
But it is the real one.

You cannot prove a negative assertion. You've been told this very facile truth hundreds of times, and yet it still does not surprise me that you haven't quite learned to take responsibility yet.

It's like asking an atheist for proof that God doesn't exist. Not only is that not the atheist's position but, nonetheless, you can't really prove negative claims. The onus lies on the person making the positive, or active, claim; e.g. "magic exists".
