It's w/e.Again. I only responded to this thread the way I did because I know that Slash has been abusing dangerous substances the past few days.Even though I fuck around with Camnator, I don't have issues with things like weed, tobacco, and alcohol in reasonable amounts. However I have little to no tolerance for just about everything else. Medical drugs weren't really something I thought about when I posted that, and the only time I'd be sympathetic is if someone ended up dependent after being prescribed by a doctor. Anything else is your own goddamn fault because you were being an idiot.

I'll show an example:One time I was prescribed on antibiotics. I was irresponsible and stopped taking them when it felt like I didn't need them anymore instead of finishing the entire bottle like I was supposed to. Needless to say, the infection came back stronger and I had to start over on stronger antibiotics.Because I decided to be an idiot and go against the doctor's directions.
so the base of your argument is, "if you didnt want to get addicted, you shouldnt have taken drugs"?

And as far as pharmaceutical drugs go, that's the fault of the medical industry these days. I genuinely believe that they make people dependent so that they keep buying more. That entire industry has proven to be one of the more fucked up and corrupt parts of our corporate society. (Look at things like patents on chemical compounds for medical drugs. It's ridiculous.)
Quote from: True Velox on January 22, 2015, 02:45:46 AMI wasn't really addicted, I took the required doses on time and stopped when I was supposed to. I guess that I was technically addicted! but it didn't control me. I can see how someone could become addicted in a similar situation, though. If someone has a habit of drinking alcohol or smoking (as many of my classmates had at the time, despite being underage), falling prey to medical grade drugs is probably more likely. I just felt physically bad, but I just wanted it to go over rather than continuing to take pills.I wasn't saying that you got addicted, but that I can see and understand why it could lead to that. Good on you for not letting it control you.

Your last post conveyed your point much batter.Making poor decisions is foolish obviously, but it's still a much more complicated matter than that.We are as we are conditioned to be. By our genes, our environment, influence from our peers, media. The foundations of addiction are rooted in one's personality/mentality. Something that is very complicated and even has uncontrollable physical variables. To say that it's simply a matter of the lack of intelligence is just plain ignorant. Such a black and white response ignores so many variables.

Shit like heroin? Not even once. Don't fucking do it if you don't want to ruin your life.
That's like telling psychopaths not to be impulsive, or trans people to just not get gender dysphoria. It's not a case of free will, here, the causes of people becoming addicted to drugs--and, yes, taking them in the first place--is reducible to neurocognitive activity in the brain, over which we have no control. What I mean is that, essentially, addiction to a certain substance is indicative of neurological imbalances.

Your first post in this thread only stated that those who abused a substance were morons. If don't want people to take what you're saying the wrong way then you need to clarify better. Yes, you stated that you felt substance abuse was moronic in regards to self diagnosis or not following instructions, but that doesn't negate what you first implied. It was still entirely plausible that you felt substance abuse as a whole was moronic. If you feel like you've been jumped on, I'm sorry. I'm not angry. Maybe others are. But that can be expected when you state something out of ignorance.
