Whilst that's just awful, it doesn't mean we should arm every bugger in bongistan because a few criminals have guns.

If this sort of thing was happening daily, I could see the argument but the fact that this is such big news shows how uncommon it is.

Not even. There are so many guns in circulation that banning them wouldn't change anything, if anything crime would increase.

And that's the problem. It's far easier to get a gun illegally in America than it is in the UK. That's really what needs to be attacked, along with some better background checks especially on mental health.
Well of course. I was just going by a hypothetical situation where guns somehow were not in circulation, just as how a person can't get hold of an Apache helicopter. People will always find ways to kill each other and it's extremely idiotic to make attempts at banning all guns because there are so many in circulation

Of course, restricting the ability for law-abiding citizens won't solve anything. There is no sure way to eliminate all illegal guns, but it can possibly be controlled. Part of that is tightening prison time and punishment for those that commit gun crime, along with eliminating plea bargains of those being prosecuted. Another way would be to charge the ATF for the whole Op: Fast and Furious seeing as how they put a lot of guns on the illegal market
