This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.
If he said this ten-17 years ago would he have gotten fired over it? To me the reason why is due to this "social justice warrior" mentality we have now. It's a different subject to talk about, but I'm going to bring up Gone Home. If that game came out ten years earlier as well than it most likely would have been considered mediocre, which it is and it wouldn't have been getting the praise it's getting now. As a society we are now getting butthurt over the littlest of things and we are praising things or people like Bruce Jenner simply because they involve the LGBT. There is nothing heroic about what Bruce Jenner did to his body but people are considering him "heroic" all because he got a sex change.
I never got this with 'pride parades'. If you are born this way, what exactly are you proud of? Now if you live like this by choice then you can be proud of it, because you chose to do so.

Like I cannot be proud to have two testicle. I was born with them.
Becausr for years and years until very recent history, society has told us that being anything but heterosexual is incorrect amd shameful. The community, having overcome this, has something to be prideful of.

Talk about bad analogies...
it's hyperbole you dip
Its a bad analogy you fu

He wrote a memo, write one back.

NOPE. Lets fire him. Therefore we teach him that his ideas were correct, but we do not want them here. People who agreed with him will resume thinking like him but will not speak out their mind in fears of being fired. they will spread their ideas anonymously, they will teach their children to think like them etc.

Ideal scenario - they show him why some of his ideas are wrong. He learns, everyone around the company learns too.

To eliminate a bad idea, you have to present a better one - not throw the bad one away.

do you feel the same way about patriotism
Being patriotic is a choice. I'm not sure what you are trying to say.
Do you mean how someone is proud of the country they are born in? Or proud to have been born in their country?
patriotism can only mean the second thing

i can be proud of luxembourg for affording people the right to die, but i cannot be their patriot

i take it you wouldn't say it's rational to be a patriot then
You have to be proud of your country to be a patriot of it. You also have to push your country to be better if you are a real patriot.
i'm failing to see why this means you can't or shouldn't be proud of your sexuality

you don't choose your sexuality, sure, but you don't choose where you're born either

there are lots of things we're "proud" of that we don't necessarily choose, so it just seems like you're trying to apply an arbitrary standard where there doesn't necessarily need to be one
There needs to be a reason you are proud of something. Some sort of achievement.
Otherwise its just egotism? Look at how great I am for doing fuck all.

I find it funny how Adam Fletcher makes laughably stupid comments like that, as if he somehow knows if someone is a hostile voice going into an interview. Either he's being incredibly invasive and digging up shit on people before he hires/moves someone to his teams (which I'm sure breaks numerous workplace safety laws), if not then he has no fucking idea and this comment comes off as thuggish and hostile, which does nothing to help his company which has already been suffering a PR disaster for almost half a year now.

I just wish people like him understood that they'll never, ever ban all views you don't like. I mean, what's the point in even fucking living in a world like that? It's just so hilariously stupid....

Big companies have always been good ol' boys' clubs, with hires being hinged on word of mouth reputations from other places; it's just weird to see it swing to the other end of the social spectrum for Google.

Funny how that little detail isn't one of the first things shared

but people try to look offended about "my free speech!!!" even though those same idiots don't understand that does NOT apply to private companies and is only there to ensure the US Government doesn't infringe on it.

People act like he said something reasonable or something subject to actual intelligent debate. You can't really debate something like that with reason when the person just trots out the gate with something so mind numbingly backward. Best you can do is say "you're wrong and here is why", or ask him to come up with whatever proof he can muster, but even then for a massive company like that to indulge him on it would be stupid too.

It's not so much that diversity is a problem, but so much as companies turning it into one. Apple (rightfully) got some shit for it a few years back.

To be fair, I really don't see whats wrong with companies hiring those that reflect the nation they are based in

but if you're throwing some kind of bias/racism/affirmative action in hiring, then yeah that's bad

How so?

This Adam Fletcher individual (who now is a CEO of another software company) has publicly stated (see above image) that he would never work with/employ certain individuals regardless of their merit.

Things should be alright as long as the individual keeps their work/personal life separate. For example, no one is going to higher someone who walks into the office with an SS uniform. But on the same token, if a person is posting anonymously on Stormfront and has no linkage to their work, that is of ZERO concern to the company they work for.

Adam may want there to be a connection so that he can feel morally superior by never interacting with them, but it will never happen. Which is why his comments just come off as stupid instead of actually threatening.

This is a completely moot point. Just because the First Amendment doesn't apply to corporations does not mean they are incapable of being oppressive and censorious institutions; and whatever one might think of the arguments presented is irrelevant to the overall idea that a company like Google--a company that wields enormous influence over public opinion and what information the public sees--ought to have an open intellectual environment. Moreover, I am certain you would be taking the opposite route if this sort of social environment in tech and counterculture that we're seeing today wasn't to the benefit of progressive ideology.

I should clarify in that I do think there should be ethics and standards, but my main things I thought of (but failed to express I suppose) is that when companies fire people for saying inflammatory things, it seems people say it's oppression of free speech, which it really isn't. Maybe this specific case could have been handled better, yeah, but sending it to everyone was also a big mistake as well. Maybe a suspension would have been better?

That being said, it's not about progressive or not to me. I'm not as liberal as you people honestly paint me out to be. I hate to play the "on the fence" person, but I can despise the progressive left just as much as the right, honestly. Why? Because it seems the further left you get, the more it blurs the line between protection/equality of minorities and suppressing opinions you might not agree with. At least with social progressive things. I'm easily on the left with economic issues.

I don't need to explain the right.

I get that companies don't want employees representing them in a bad light and they have every right to remove someone who does. However, even if this is a joke it's scary. What I'm scared for is the false negatives.
