It doesn't matter if you put it in caps. It's a bit of a joke to say space exploration was a uniting force for a President who was dealing with some of the most iconic and historical protests/riots.

There was nothing "united" about us, outside of name, during the time period.

In addition to having many family members and close friends who live in the US, there's also the fact that New Zealand takes all of it's cues from America, wherever you guys go, we follow. So given that I have many ties to the most powerful country on earth, it's quite important to me what happens there, especially considering that I'd like to move there one day.

So my point remains, You have two completely polarised groups of people that spend all their political time trying to brow beat the other into submission, nothing gets done and the whole country degenerates. The only solution is either mass deportations, or partition, or both. Or genocide, but nobody wants that.

It's pretty clear that the thing America needs is a reformation in it's identity. To use catchall terms that I hate using in any other circumstance, both liberals and conservatives cannot both claim to be "the real Americans" at the same time any longer. They need to seperate so that they can build their culture around what they actually are, instead of how they're not the opposition.

I don't think you really need to unify. No one should unify under one banner ever in terms of government, especially in this case. A nation will always have a need for critics, and people who offer an opposing viewpoint. That's how we create a discussion in the first place.

Or at least that's how it SHOULD work. Lately around the world, it's less a discussion, and more people surrounding themselves in echo chambers, and people finding "facts" that support their own beliefs. I'd argue like that video I linked, "facts" are becoming opinions, which is a dangerous notion.

That's an entirely different conversation though. What I'm saying is be a critic to something you fundamentally oppose.

It gets to a point people talk past each other, or go into a debate thinking they're right from the get go and their opponent is wrong, rather than keeping an open mind.
