Not necessarily.

I mean, My best friend is married to a black girl. He says all the time that he hates Niggers.

When me and my friends refer to "Niggers", we are referring to thug lowlife scumbags regardless of race. There are black niggers, white niggers, asian niggers.

But the word has its origins describing specifically people of a certain ethnicity. It's a corruption of negro.

Is it not racist then to attach a negative connotation to it?

Depends on the context. Same as swearing isn't offensive if I say "frack me that hurt" rather then "frack you, and your family".


Also depends on the person(s) within earshot. But I'm no mind-reader.

I don't see them as any different than other swear words.  People call their friends fuck faces or bitch ass homeboys and it's fun banter but if you are in an argument with someone it's taken as an insult, which it's supposed to be insulting.  I don't think any race has owner ship of a word.
