A theory that has been kicking around for a little while is that Trump is actually a double agent trying to hamstring the republican party to secure a win for the democrats.

The BBC did an article on this recently to stir shit up again, because the UK is currently sperging over him wanting to ban all UK citizens from entering the USA.

The article is fairly well balanced and tongue in cheek to a point, but I imagine yanks can already form an opinion on this question without some pre-reading.

What do you think, is he going to pull off the mask and reveal the lizard face right at the crucial point of the election? Or he is doing it for publicity/amusement? Or is he genuine? (as far as politicians go)

Up until 2009 he was a democrat, supporting democratic candidates financially, with a few exceptions, since '89. Besides a couple notable policies, quite a bit of his platform is liberal. The guy's a left-leaning fiscal conservative at heart, and I can't imagine a single reason why an immensely successful guy like Trump would want to take on such a demanding job as president. Whether he's doing it just for shits and giggles or to derail a republican party that was just about to get its shit together isn't clear.

It's really not hard to see how a person who's life is very different than most people would develop opinions that are unique. Just by reading books I feel that I've become a person that I would thought insane when I used to watch TV. I think Trump is like that but rich.

If it was truly for publicity, I don't think he'd be taking it as far as he has. The idea that he specifically ran in a convoluted plan to destroy the party is some tinfoil shit of the highest caliber. Him getting the nomination and then announcing it was all just a ruse all along to condemn Republican voters sounds like it belongs in the script to a shitty tv show.

Not that I've read up on his actual policies at all, but if it's along the lines of the ones I hear often ("Fuck muslims, build walls"), I can hardly believe he's serious about it, nor that that many people could support it.

I really don't see how building a wall is something you couldn't be serious about.

It's geographically impossible to do what Trump wants to do, given how the land is around the border in a lot of places. And the money it would take to build and maintain this 21st century Great Wall.

I've yet to hear any fair critiques of him as they tend to be the typical smear "he's a racist bigot that wants to throw all Mexican babies over the border to get eaten by dingoes" kind of thing.

From what I recall reading of his policies nothing sounds terrible.
