I have to admit that I'm impressed with the province's actions taken to at least slow the spread of the cooties. Basically every business except non essentials has been shut down, public gatherings no larger than 15 are allowed in very limited places, and it's now the law to self quarantine even if you've so much as traveled out of province within the country. It won't stop the corona ball since it's already rolling and spreading, but at least they tried to minimize how much it spreads. They're doing much more than my home province for certain.

Calm down Jesus Christ you’re embarrassing yourself over a simple discussion.

I never said anything about defying the law to go to work, you’re pulling that out of nowhere. Also throwing money at an issue won’t necessarily make it go away. Is this affecting the entire country? Yes. Is the federal government doing something about it? Yes. Should the state/local government do something to help in their respective states? Yes.

This is not a difficult concept. I don’t know what it’s like over there but here the state/local governments can do more for their citizens than just make petty ordinances. The way your arguing about this you’re making it seem like there’s nothing in between a huge national government and a neighborhood advisory board meeting.

At least, that’s how your coming across.

I swear, you yanks would have literal walkers roaming the streets and you'd still be like "I am a PROUD Trump supporter and I will gladly DIE on the job at Foot Locker if it means the federal government stays out of our lives!"

Federal government = more resources and better equipment to deal with national crises. State government pertains to LOCALISED issues, which is clearly not what you are dealing with here. I'm not even American and even I can grasp that basic concept. Why is this so difficult for you.
My bro, you are the one arguing why federal government should not be involved in a nationwide health crisis. You've now jumped from "what good would federal meddling do" to conceding that the federal government is doing something about it. I'm arguing that they're not doing enough, and now you're trying to semantics your way out of this hole you've dug yourself into.

Gaslighting might work on your Liberty Hangout forums but it doesn't work on people with a brain.

Yes, I said Federal meddling wouldn't be productive, but I'm saying that in conjunction to what's already been done. I'm not blind to what's already been taken. I'm sorry but I don't see how the federal government can automatically do a more efficient job just because they're the federal government, especially with our current president. This country is so mismanaged and it doesn't exactly have a great tract record at being efficient, whereas I've seen states handle things in their jurisdiction with great skill. Granted this is a very new crisis that we haven't really experienced before but I still don't see how the states shouldn't have any authority on the matter.

Here's a question: Isn't Italy in the EU? What steps are they taking and if they are, why is Italy still piling up bodies?

In other news, I'm assuming that harpy Pelosi finally backed down since the Senate agreed on a stimulus bill. Every eligible citizen will get a $1200 at some point in the future. Personally this is great news for me since I haven't been able to add any money to my savings account in a while, and I have several bills looming over my head right now.

I'm not saying they automatically would do a better job, nor am I saying that states are to be left in the dark. Common sense dictates however that a federalised lockdown would almost 100% hamper the spread of the disease. Leaving it up to the states seems a bit counterintuitive and lazy. States do not have the same amount of authority that the federal government does, therefore it makes sense to hand more responsibility to the federal government in order to curb this thing. I'm really struggling with your inability to comprehend this here.

I'm not sure what your question is alluding to or implying. Nobody knows the reason why Italy is severely affected, but what is certain is that the nationwide lockdown is starting to yield results, albeit slowly. The EU doesn't have much clout in the operations of individual member states because the EU and Italy aren't a singular country. The US is.

Let me ask you a question, if Italy had left their individual provinces and city councils to their own devices to deal with this thing, would they be seeing better results, or do you think the virus would ripping through communities like wildfire?

Considering individual European countries have roughly the same population as individual large US states, the comparison between the US and EU is a lot easier than the US as a whole to individual European countries. When you have such a massive government with hundreds of millions of citizens, the logical conclusion is to break things down into smaller regions but country providence to state isn't much of a fair comparison.

As for your question, I'll admit: I don't know. Italy's cases is going down so clearly a lock down of some form helped, but I don't think we'll ever know about whether or not it helped in regions where there were no cases, or cases that were not reported.

There are two reasons why Italy is severely affected.

1) Italy has high standard of living, and a lot of people in their 60+ not only are alive, but can (and prefer to, because mentality to live life to fullest, to enjoy it) walk around freely, which worked in favour of infecting more people
2) Their city infrastructure involves a lot of narrow streets and alleys where virus is more likely to survive.
Bonus) Also Venice being both tourist attraction and having high humidity is just perfect, perfect place for this virus to operate.

Other viruses like influenza are harder to spread in humid weather because the humidity condenses more water on the respiratory droplets from coughing or sneezing which causes them to fall to the ground faster and not travel as far. I've heard that the WHO was hoping that SARS-CoV-2 would also share this property which could make it more seasonal like the influenza virus, but they needed to study it further to determine whether or not that is the case.

Has there been some evidence that the humidity somehow has the opposite effect for this virus and makes it spread easier?

Various news sites cite that the virus doesn't do particularly well in warmer climates.

Interesting.

It's peculiar how Japan isn't seeing more cases than it's currently experiencing right now given their life expectancy and standard of living.

Then again, they have the added benefit of living on an island.

21,000 dead. What a fucking sobering statistic.

There's gonna have to be a memorial day dedicated to this or something when it's all said and done.

Well I hear the Japanese are a pretty "clean" and orderly society and they don't really touch each other much as their culture seems to respect personal space more than western cultures. People who are sick or have allergies wearing a mask so they don't cough or sneeze on someone has also been a common thing there for years now.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.

Trumpbux passed the House today. Literally only one fuckwad (Rep. Massie) objected to it.

The look on the other two rep's faces is priceless. John Kerry also called Rep. Massie a "Masshole".

I don't agree a lot with Kerry but Massie is a gigantic jack off. "What's that? There's a pandemic and several Reps are in their home states and can't make it this session? Better object and call for a standard vote and force people back through airports and security checks :D"

Or how about spending eight years in the House and only having a record on 12 bills?

John Kerry also called Rep. Massie a "Masshole".

Finally found out and confirmed that one of my co-workers is in self quarantine. I also learned what happens if a single employee at a sobeys liquor store comes down with the cooties or goes into quarantine. We  close down and do a "deep clean" which means scrubbing down the entire building and cleaning every single bottle of booze stored inside. Bitchin'

If you know, you know.
When this is all behind us, will countries look at China for an apology or compensation? In the very beginning, China was silencing its doctors who were trying to highlight the potential disaster Covid-19 can become. Surely these sort of actions should be punished now that the whole world is in turmoil?

I heard from a couple of people that this is actually man-made in the US. Is there any evidence (that you cannot deny without some mental gymnastics) that it came from China?
