The "private pressure group" in this type of situation is merely the types of angry Twitter mobs that you'd most likely gleefully take part in so you can feel morally righteous and like you just did something important. Just because they're not having their lives or their company's existence directly threatened doesn't mean they can't be pressured into submitting via badgering.
Having toxic vitriol spewed at the developers from every direction, trying to go after their employment, and trying to pry into their real life so you can silence whatever perceived wrongdoing they may have committed is basically a method of censorship.
The ACLU is also one of the most well-known and respected non-profit organizations in the country, so you can't just say "Oh, fuck them, they don't matter."
