Where do you think your loved ones go when they die?
In the ground. Well, in some of their cases, they want their ashes spread across the Great Lakes.

There is no afterlife.

Bro, heres a suggestion.

If you honestly think I'm baiting, or trolling then just don't respond to me. Is it honestly that hard?

I really wish there was an place of eternal harmony that you go to after you die, where all your deceased loved ones and friends are waiting for you. I cannot overstate how much I wish there was a place like that. But the sad fact of the matter is that it doesn't exist. After death, there is literally nothing. No black void, no fire, just simply nothing. It's an incredibly scary thought, and I can see why people would rather believe in religion than the idea of nothingness. I would love to delude myself in that belief, and I did for a while. But everyone has to face the truth sometime. The kind of funny thing is that Christians will never be proven wrong. When they die, they won't have the cognition to realize that their beliefs were incorrect.

I would say "Who do you know that?" but I just don't feel like it. :/

Not really atheist nor a theist but as the old saying goes "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust."

I know it from basic logic. Everything that you are; your personality, your memory, your identity, who you are is all a construct of your brain. And when you die, your brain rots into nonexistence, along with who you are. I find it funny that such a simple concept is up to so much debate.

I don't think it's a scary thing at all, being dead. I can't really recall what it was like before I was born—being nonexistent and all—but if I had to take a guess, I'd imagine death would be something like life before living.

So from my point of view, as a consciousness, I'll never die.

I don't simply know. I mean sure, the physical body goes away but...I guess the hope of a better place is really hard to shake out of certain people. Like myself. Its just...hope, nothing valuable or important, just the hope that somewhere in this universe there is some kind of second chapter or something.

But yeah, the body returns to the Earth.

Maybe it is childish, but it still scares the hell out of me. Throughout life, no matter how alone you are, you always have your consciousness. I just can't grasp the concept of that being stripped away.

Highest case scenario: Consciousness is retained, but the physical form is lost. In essence, you're part of something greater, the mesh of the universe, another level of consciousness.

Lowest case scenario: Consciousness is lost, physical form is lost, but your atoms are still scattered to the winds and what you were blends into the grand clockwork of things.

Either way, it's best if we do our best while we're here. Make damn sure your loved ones know they're loved.

The body will decompose/burn/get disintegrated/etc and thus consciousness is lost. That's my viewpoint and yes it's a scary one even for Atheists like me.

All things considered, a normal age related death isn't so bad. Like going to sleep really. Of course, all the other shit that is an outside influence and can happen to you is what sucks.

Drowning or burning would be fucking horrible.

Chances are that if I'm dying as an 80 year old man than there's gong to be organ failure or colon cancer involved. Neither of those sound fun.

I'd like to point out that, medically, cause of death of an older person isn't listed as "natural causes" anymore. It's mostly cardiac arrest or organ failure of some sort. That sounds pretty unpleasant.

To say, 'nothing is true', is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say, 'everything is permitted', is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic.

That would make this place, much, much more bearable.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
Where do you think your loved ones go when they die?
Hopefully 6ft under, in a wooden box. There's probably variations on that, depending on how said loved ones come to their end and whatever their will states how they are to be buried (what with family mausoleums, cremations, and those new ways to be buried such as with tree seeds in a biodegradable box)

My Dad already has told me his plans. "Just put me in a fucking cardboard box and bury me in the backyard. Don't worry, I won't care."

It's not exactly a happy topic to discuss about, so I don't really think about it.

Best case scenario: You become a spooky ghost or integrate into some kind of universal spirit thing

He didn't say outright, "this is how something is, disagree with me then you're wrong". Which is what I got from plenty of comments in this thread.

I'm not asking for perfect neutrality, but there's a difference between stating your beliefs and stating your beliefs as eternal truths. I believe in God, but I don't go around saying, "You're going to Heaven when you die, God is going to love you, you piece of shit, so accept it already.".
