After a kid was arrested recently for bringing a homemade clock to school, one has to wonder if School administration have screw loose or two.

I don't really see a problem with them taking this as a threat. The kid brought something that looks like a bomb and the teacher brought attention to it so appropriate matters could take place.

To add to the threat, he told them it was a clock, but didn't go into detail about this clock, why he made it or what it was for.

The problem I do have with this whole thing is that there was clearly some racism involved. That being said, I still believe that if a kid of any other race or religion brought the clock to their school something similar would've happened.

So no, I don't think school officials are too jumpy, they just want to protect their students and staff.

If you were in a public setting and someone took that out, I'd say that most people would think that it's a bomb.

I actually kind of sympathize with the school. It was a huge red digital clock in a briefcase with a bunch of wires. The kid wasn't arrested, and I'm not sure how much I believe the kid's claim that the cop said "yeah that's who I thought it'd be". That doesn't even make sense since the kid admits he'd never met or seen him before.

The suspension seems unjustified but this whole thing is pretty silly.

Plus I'm pretty sure a kid that wants to blow up a school would go waving his invention proudly at the teacher's face, giving them alarm.

Also, there was no countdown on the clock, it was actually reading time. Of course, since the kid is Muslim I guess we all have to freak out since obviously every Muslim is an evil Jihadist.

We're dealing with high school freshmen and teachers/faculty. It's really not the cream of the crop that were thrown into a situation where a student pulls out a metal box with a digital clock/timer unannounced.

For the American educational system this is not at all surprising; it has more than its fair share of idiots that don't understand technology, are gullible, and will blindly follow the rules even if people get hurt in the end. An example: I had to explain to both a tutorial class and the teacher that Mermaids weren't real, Megalodon is extinct, and the Discovery channel just wanted views.

I can't tell you if it would've been less likely to happen if the kid was white, but I'm pretty sure the media wouldn't have cared as much if the kid wasn't a Muslim minority.

I get the kid, and how unfair this situation was for him. Wanting to show off his cool clock he made, I would too, and being mistaken for a 14 year old bomber. It's dissapointing to say the least.

Anyways, I was at the gym and they had this story, and PRESIDENT OBAMA invited the kid so that he could see the clock....WHAT?!

Just a reminder, he was suspended for having a "mock bomb", not because they actually thought it was a bomb.

C'mon. The kid stuck a big-ass red digital clock in a pencil case designed like a attache briefcase and the whole situation was started when the timer went off repeatedly in class. The kid is smart, so somewhere down the line of designing it he must've realized it's kind of unusual to put a clock in a metal case and have a huge display like cliche 80s movies. He probably did it to look like a movie prop, not realizing its significance.

Worth national news? Nope.
Worth a three-day suspension? Probably not. It's not the end of the world.

I mean yeah it's not right what they did to him and it is obviously racist but c'mon. Our police force has had tons of problems of overreacting and being racist. You kinda have to expect it.

It makes me think when people tell women they shouldn't go walking around a city at night by themselves. If she gets raped it's not her fault of course but it is definitely a stupid move to have done that in the first place and expected something else.
