The House of Representatives or the Senate.

We're currently learning about Congress in my politics class, and being a top-notch Englishman my initial reaction is to think of the House as more important (as our Commons is), but from reading about it it seems as if there's somewhat more emphasis placed on the Senate.

Now, this is either because the Senate is genuinely more important/relevant in American politics, because it's elected (whereas our Lords isn't) or because the Senate has more power to check the executive than the House does.

Since the senate is much smaller than the house, individual senators represent a much larger population and thus are more "relevant" nationally. In terms of overall power, though, both house are about equal.

I consider the HoR a better representation of the population's views.

Although the Senate ends up being more moderate in nature, and compromises usually originate from there (to get rejected by the House).

House represents the views of people far better

One of the rare instances where I agree with you.

Large urban centers like NYC and Los Angeles really distort things.

But I would also argue the House has more power since they have the rights of power to initiate revenue bills, impeach federal officials, and elect the President in the case of an electoral college tie.

You can't run a government without money

Both are equally dangerous.

House is more dangerous, there's more Kalifornjians in it.
