I know it's shitty, but this is something that is going to have a major effect on the election. Mass shooting at a gay Latino nightclub in the important swing state known as Florida? You can't make this shit up. It's almost too insane to be true. We're now in a position where white shooter = Clinton victory, and a Muslim shooter = Trump victory.

That doesn't mean we should start a fucking debate over it. We're better than politicians who try to swing these types of tragedies into a political debate.

In similar but unrelated news, an armed man was arrested in LA after admitting he was going to the gay pride parade.

Never thought about this, but when all the reporters were there, they said that they could hear all the victims' cell phones constantly going off.  All of their friends and family members were spamming their phones.  That's pretty nightmarish.

How terrible of us to be concerned with the implications for policy from this event! You can act as if the people who want to have meaningful discussions after tragedies are at fault--not that all people discuss such things appropriately--but equally it's sanctimonious fucks who insist we shouldn't be drawing any conclusions from this, and that we should just sit around feeling bad for the victims for a while.

Of course you can debate about the topic. But when I made that post news about what happened was just starting to get detailed and automatically people were debating about this shit.

I said that you should take a moment to recognize what happened, and not right away start debating like fucking politicians.

How is misrepresenting the political views expressed in this thread, specifically to suit your narrative of "Shut up and pay your respects" anything but politicisation?

You may disagree with it, but you're contributing to the problem you yourself identify when you make stupid generalisations (the second of which is almost entirely incorrect) about the positions people are expressing.

Let me explain something.

When I made that post, the original. It was just around the time that a lot of details for the shooting came out. However a lot of it was speculation. People were still shocked about what happened. I was that is for sure.

However when I come to see what people had to say in the thread. All they were talking about whether the US has a gun problem or an islamic problem. Most of the people were talking about that instead of looking at what just happened.
It was hours after the fact, only hours.
That pisses me off, we aren't politicians who take advantage of stuff like this to debate shit. So seeing everyone do that pisses me off sooo much.

I may not have any family in Orlando, or friends or anything like that. But 50+ people dying and more injured is a tragedy, and none of you at the time were noticing that.

Now? It's been a day since it happened. People have been paying their respects, and the debates are beginning about what should be done. That's fine. The shock of it has passed. I can deal with it.
