Oh god please do not use the "single-handedly" meme. Very few presidents single-handedly do anything. The dismantling of the Cuban Missile Crisis was more attributed to Dean Rusk (Secretary of State at the time). Kennedy had just as many foreign policy fallacies as successes.

Pretty much his entire cabinet saw war with the Soviets as the inevitable outcome. It was only through JFK, his brother, and yeah, Rusk, that that didn't happen. Of course no president singlehandedly does anything, but JFK definitely had the most influence on the peaceful resolution of the CMC, and it's certainly more impressive than getting a dam named after you.
