On the OP (or any post), I can click the date stamp for a 'link' of sorts to the post:

But why can't the link just be this, instead:

http://sep7agon.net/index.php?topic=49677#msg994249

It accomplishes the same thing with a little less junk. What's even the point of having it the way it is now?

It's really SMF that has a good number of odd things like that. There's a reason why groups are taking their time to be finished. Just like how "fixing the navbar" seems like a small task, but it suddenly erupts into a partial rewrite of a good chunk of code and style that has to work once it's on the live version. (Besides that it should also appeal more to the current one and serve a proper role in the mobile experience)
