There are still going to be many periods where the mods are inactive.

That's why you appoint one who will be there when the others aren't.
That's not possible

Obviously there are holidays and other things.

But there has been a lack of mod coverage during the evening for a while.

Pick someone who isn't working when everybody else is, which would fall into different timezones.

We have Euro mods, we have U.S mods. Timezones don't matter, life is still going to get in the way of someone's ability to go on the internet. People have school, people have work, people have problems.

We don't have any users here that live in Asia. Even if we did that doesn't solve the issue of life getting in the way. Plus they're going to be less inclined to get on Sep7 if there's only 5 members online when they are.

That's fine and all but I think what Rocket is trying to get across is that more mods from a certain time zone would make the probability of none of them being on at the same time significantly less. It wouldn't be perfect but it would certainly help.

We have a handful of Aussie members like Fruit and Cheese Potato. Not sure who else would fit the role.

I'm not talking about the Aussies. The EST evening hours do seem to have a lack of mod power at times. This whole event happened from 7 - 9 or so. That's peak user time and to not have at least one mod on during that time is rather strange.
EDIT: This sentence structure is terrible, time for bed I think.

We knew the world would not be the same.
A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent.
I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita.
Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty
and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says,
"Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.."
I suppose we all thought that one way or another.
We need more than just one new mod.

Most of it's already been handled by others, but I'm going to say that there is no way to prevent people from saying spoilers. Yes, bans are a deterrent, but if someone really wants to they'll do it anyway. Mods can only mitigate the damage, ultimately if you want to ensure yourself to be spoiler free you're going to have to go dark.

That being said, I'm going to echo septy and say that bringing in another mod or two won't guarantee that this won't happen again. Yes it wouldn't hurt, but sometimes things like this happen. All of the mods who are normally on at this time were busy with late shifts at work. So it was just really a bit of bad timing for Deci to sperg. Regarding the DDOS thing, Deci is pretty incompetent so we were never worried about him actually DDOSing the site, however I did bring up the fact that he did threaten to do it to Cheat and asked how he wanted to treat it since it is his site after all. One month blacklist for everything Deci did was the answer.

New mod talk has been something we've been discussing for a few weeks now off and on. As Cheat said this brought it back up again tonight. Maybe have one or two people soon™ that we can agree on.

I'm just saying we need more mods for better coverage overall. It has less to do with the spoilers themselves and more to do with having staff online as often as possible for faster reaction times to any kind of shitstorm.

I've been saying we're understaffed since there was 13 staff member.
Now we have 8 staff members, only a few of which are consistently here.

I'm glad people are finally taking spoilers seriously. Spoiling something for someone is the worst thing you could do to someone on a forum.

What else could you possibly do to someone? Tell them to kill themselves? Reveal the Facebook profile?

None of those are nearly as bad.

Again, the overall issue here is more mod coverage. I really don't think that spoilers are the worst thing in the world, though I do believe that intentional spoilers with malicious intent should result in discipline, as with other things.

You either die a hero or live long enough to become Mythic..
Byrne, Verb, Luci and Fruit are the best candidates for mod I believe.

Fruit would definitely be good timegap wise, Verb is on often and would crack down on issues immediately, Luci and Byrne just seem like they have better qualities than most on here.

The only thing I can think of that would definitely be worse is if you were doxxed--but if you were doxxed, 99.99% of the time, it could have been prevented anyway. Usually, you have to actually give someone a little bit of leeway--posting a picture of yourself, giving your real name, revealing your location, etc.

If you don't want to run the risk of getting doxxed, don't post any personal information, or dox yourself. Because you have a greater chance of being killed by a terrorist in the US than you have of being hunted by some Internet predator.

Choosing not to post personal information only compromises your forum experience by a small amount.
Choosing to go dark (the only way to guarantee you won't be spoiled) is, obviously, a big compromise.

What else is there? Harassment? Harassment may arguably be worse, depending on the severity and the circumstances, except there are tools on most well-designed websites that allow you to block or ignore any individuals who are making you uncomfortable. This also serves as a corollary to the personal info bit I mentioned earlier. If you have any reason to suspect that someone might be after you, there's things you can do about that that won't compromise your forum-going experience.

Now, those two things aside, I'd have to agree with Snake that posting spoilers really is the worst thing you could do to someone on the Internet.

Is it the worst thing you could to do someone in person? Of course not.
But on the Internet... there's really not a whole lot else you can do to hurt people.
