Well if you can't get a week ban right off the bat for anything then what's the point of following the rules at all?!
A couple days, like I said, is so utterly useless and insignificant.
An excellent point. A smart troublemaker will know that he has a freebie, with which he can break basically any rule he wants. That shit didn't fly on B.old.

I can't BELIEVE I am invoking B.old's system.

Highly unlikely, a nice idea on paper but in application its far too susceptible to abuse, a person can edit out what they don't like or just flat out lock threads when things don't go their way. Even if the staff gives it to more "responsible" members, there have always been cases of members who have generally been more calm to lose their cool. Its just not going to be a thing, sorry.

1. It's their thread, they should have control if they want. Don't like it? Make your own thread.

2. It's not like a monitor position. Each thread would need to be requested specifically. If I was allowed to have these permissions in my MGSV thread, I wouldn't have it in my Street Fighter thread. See how that works? It only applies to my MGSV thread, because it matters there.

Mods would be able to say "Okay, he means to update this thread appropriately, and in the past, he's shown maturity. Let's grant him this."

::not intending to come off as rude::

Have you ever been staff on a forum before?
i'm not trying to be horrible, but you're a monitor, and only have been for like what, 3 days?
you're hardly one to know the ins and outs of forum moderation.

Hold another vote if you really wish. Hybrid, non-strict moderation would still win.
Give it time. People will eventually see the merits of such a system.

Been 9 months since the last vote and we're doing fine.

Let me know when you want us to organize it.

nothing you could do on this site would result in a immediate week to month ban
And that, fundamentally, is my problem with the system.
holy fuck I agree with Verb.
But that quote from Yutaka is so brutally and horribly showing this system's flaws.

I'm sorry, what?
Well if you can't get a week ban right off the bat for anything then what's the point of following the rules at all?!

Tell me what you think is so severe, TBlocks, that it deserves a weeklong ban off the bat.
Well given the situation I would say these spoilers as a good example. It's obvious how much trouble it's caused so quell that by showing it's not tolerated. By letting someone get off with something like this shows weakness and cracks in the rules.

A month is a bit too harsh if the punishment system is to remain how it is, but a day is pretty fucking lenient.

I've been banned longer for less.

Absolutely.

Don't break the rules, don't be an ass. Simple as that. You won't need to worry about the ban if you don't break the rules.

It's called deterrence.

Also, you're not really in any position to judge, Alex Jones.

I would just like to say that spoiling a game's plot should be punished with a week or two of a temp. ban. There should be a rule for it also, with the punishment clearly defined, so people are aware of such things. Mods should enforce these rules and punish the rule breakers, especially if they did it on purpose.

Like we have seen recently.

We are not going to ban a user for one week for spoiling a game - namely because the concept of a spoiler is so damn objective to people.

In the MGS thread at the heart of this, they want zero discussion on anything beyond speculation. Do we take that concept as a spoiler, something that would limit discussion on any number of games or movies?

Spoilers are going to face a punishment, but it will not be a week, or a month, or a permaban as I'm sure someone secretly hopes. I can assure that, and if you don't want to take my word for it, you're more than welcome to wait for Cheat and LC to return.

Also, anything the jeopardizes someone's well being or mental health needs severe punishment. The fact that suicidal people can told to kill themselves without consequence is fucking retarded.

First of all, what...?

Really, months for spoiling a video game? You can't be serious.

Absolutely.

Don't break the rules, don't be an ass. Simple as that. You won't need to worry about the ban if you don't break the rules.

It's called deterrence.
If you can call out members, spam, and harass people without even getting a three day ban, spoiling a shitty game franchise shouldn't garner a month long ban. That's ridiculous.

You're letting your emotion over having it spoiled cloud your logical thinking.

The staff does attempt to assist people with mental health problems. We have in the past, and if talked to, we will in the future.

spoilers aren't subjective. they're pretty objective.
however, prehistoric's rules were down to subjectivity.

Spoilers are absolutely objective. If they post something that happens in the game, that's a spoiler. Period.

I'm not asking for permabans on "THE ENDING IS SOOO GOOD GUYS" even though they annoy me.

I'm sorry, if I were to go post right now and say "In Level 4 of Halo 5, you get to use a DMR!", does that HONESTLY impact your impression of the game?

As far as I'm concerned, breaking all the rules need more severe punishments. Ooh, you don't get to go on Sep7agon for a few days. Maybe you'll shine your shoes with the extra time.

Like, seriously.
You have to put effort in to break the rules and get banned here because it's so lax. If you actually manage to break the rules then you absolutely deserve a ban longer than a day because you're knowingly doing something you shouldn't be knowing full well you'll get banned.

Depends on each individual case.

I received no assist in my thread, despite repeatedly being told to kill myself.

I explained multiple times in that thread, that I've been suicidal for years.

I'd agree with that, but anything over a week for any type of spoiler is far too long. Telling someone to fuck off or kill themselves in a non-banter way should be higher than spoiling a game.
