I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita.
Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty
and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says,
"Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.."
I suppose we all thought that one way or another.
So...say I got people to join the forum, but they didn't use my referral link.

Yeah... there's really nothing that can be done. The link tracks the person for 60 days and even if they don't have the link, if they know your name on the forums they can enter it in when they register.
