It largely doesn't matter but locked threads clogging the page hurt my autism and it fractures whatever conversation was going on if someone does pick it back up

If you want to continue your discussion ask a mod to take your posts out of the locked thread and put them in a new one. Saves you the trouble of having to make a new one and find out where you left off.

No. I knew what was coming a mile away. Verbatim was going to shit all over the thread just like with my other one and you two are gonna end up arguing page by page. This site is becoming very predictable.

If I didn't request a lock, a mod is gonna notice and have to clean up a mess later and lock it him/herself.

Honestly there should be an option for OPs to lock/unlock threads. This shouldn't be a mod's job.

But he wasn't... It was a discussion.

Considering the fact that Verbatim was the whole reason for that thread, he really shouldn't have had that much free reign over the thread as he did. Regardless of the mods saying they aren't giving him special treatment, there's no reason to allow him to go into the thread and post shit that basically boils down to "Hurr he deserved it" that's uncalled for.

Bans shouldn't be discussed at all because like in this situation it leaves the other person involved with a sense that they've "won" because the other user is banned. I doubt Kupo really gives a shit, but allowing comments like that is just flat out wrong.

I think it can be abused in some cases, and could be used to limit discussion to just an echobox.

For example, If I created a thread saying "Israel deserves to be wiped off the map because XYZ" and then after a few 'hell yes' responses someone jumps in and debates with my view, I could request a lock before my belief on the matter has collapsed, i.e. proof that reasons XYZ are false.

I think if you want to limit discussion because you don't like where it ended up and it wasn't spammed, derailed (or breaking any other rules), then don't create the fucking thread in the first place.

We're usually rather picky about locking OP's thread just because the thread hasn't gone in the direction they wished for. Now if there is just a shit storm of insults (and not the good banter style) then yeah we'll lock it.

Yes, because it is always situational; however, there have been times that the OP has requested a lock and they have been denied.
