Is taking threads off topic against the rules?

Because I don't know if I'm the only one starting to get pissed off that the anime circlejerk is derailing every thread with more than a page in it all the time, so tell me; is this against the rules, and if so, why is it allowed to continue. If not, why not? Most of the time, just spamming pictures of anime doesn't even have anything to do with the OP after two or three posts.

Yes it is against the rules to derail a thread.

The reason it's not being stopped is likely because I and the other mods have no idea it's happening. I can't view every post that's made, even if I try really hard to surf the different boards. Use the report button.

No. Not as of yet.

It is against the rules but without subthreads it's quite hard to avoid doing it.

It's not just the one thread - it's happened in numerous ones across many boards.

You're welcome to make one dedicated thread for your anime discussion as Yutaka did in the Anarchy forums, but you don't have free reign to derail threads with the content. It just creates a mess.

The Meta threads were, for the most part, merged into one giant thread - a thread that was then derailed by the anime postings, which also qualifies as spam.

Problem is, it's a bit more difficult for us to split a thread, then merge threads together - especially when the postings continue so rapidly.

The point is - spamming, either by spamming numerous threads or derailing a thread, is a problem that the mods cannot always see. Report the threads, and it will be taken care of.

Due to the fact that we don't actually have a policy against spam there was a discussion going on about what to do about it. We came to a conclusion, acted accordingly and it's now being implemented forum wide. The complaints about "anime spam" have been around for months without any recourse. No one is saying you can't post anime gifs (fuck I do it myself) it's just that you can't spam pages worth of them to derail threads.

I'm not talking about a specific thread either. I'm just saying in general. I have no idea what thread you were referring to earlier, but if it really is a thread that has no purpose and is just random shit then spamming anime gifs in it would not be counted as "derailment" in my opinion.

Remember this is not solely against anime. People derailing a thread with spiderman or cucumber spam would also fall under this as well.

Also just because it says someone is online doesn't mean they're online. I leave my computer on pretty much all day even if I'm not even home.
