We could simplify the whole thing and have new threads reflected by the icon on the left (add icons that are brighter or have an outline or different, attention grabbing color scheme). The only issue with that is the extremely useful link to the oldest post you haven't read yet in each thread that the "new" link goes to.

I mean, we could add that to the icon, but it would seem odd to me.

IIRC I replaced the really generic SMF looking icon with it before the rise of Sep7 2.0, so yeah, it's kind of old.

It's fucking everywhere. I'm not going to click on every single thread, and notifications tell me about the threads I care about. So kinda pointless imo.

That's what it is, actually. Sep7agon is built on a theme that was built from a generic SMF template. We could start from scratch, but it's a lot of work, and not everyone really agrees with it, at least not until the header is updated and all is fine for mobile.
