I have a few questions for you guys and I want them answered immediately.


I am considering actually putting in the Coup some of you have been asking for. I need a little feedback on this idea of mine.

Basically, at about 300-500 posts or so, you'd be able to check a box in your profile called "Turn Coup On" or something. It would basically be the on/off switch for the crazy customized shit you guys wear in Anarchy. If it's turned on for you, you can see everyone's custom colors, nameplates, etc. If it's not turned on for you, everyone appears normal.

Would everyone be cool with this idea?

The second thing I wanted to ask about is a potential alternative to the bottom links we've got to supplement adsense. Infolinks has a nifty ad service that displays image ads on the sides of the page (in the dead area that is covered in the blue gradient). I'm not completely sold on the practice yet, but I'd like to see what you think about adding them. I'm worried they'd look too...unappealing on this forum.

Obviously, as I said, I am being based on Bungie.old's and things the community likes, and finds favorable. I am not like trying to change what people want, but to deliver something better within those expectations. Hence why I made that thread public. (So when I show my work, people can scream at me telling me that's not what they want) I thought it was clear, though.

BTW, the majority of the thread view layout is pretty much non-negotiable (user bars, sigs, avatar placement, etc.).

I would compromise with  background-based ads. Since usually those ones look better, especially if they are gaming-related. Yet a standalone image on the right or left is too much breaking. If we honestly need more ads that badly then how about adding them in-between every few posts?

Surely you can compromise. One ad on the side isn't much and like I said previously, it would help the site.

There might be ways to make background change possible whilst it fits with the design without effectively breaking it. I am not going to personally investigate on this right now, though.

No to the side bar ads, indifferent to Coup. As long as people aren't able to edit the background of their posts, that is.

Well, basically it would be by presenting a set list of colors and background patterns to choose from, that were tested earlier to fit with the overall design and possible mismatching color choices for the text. Something like the current title bar system, but applied to post backgrounds, a little bit more advanced. (Which means loads of work both in design and implementation)

I have my doubts about that. The original Coup tried to do the same yet in the end the forum still turned into a cacaphony of chaotic messes, conflicting colors and a ton of anime pictures everywhere. I can't really imagine how you couuld people the freedom to do that without having the forum turned into a chaotic mess.

Well... Yeah, I guess. That kind of limited customization is still possible, though.

I don't think that's what anyone thinks of when talking about custom backgrounds though. Back in the days of Coup it meant being able to include a picture, for example.

It's work for later, at least for me. Post-December release. Which I will talk about in the following weeks.

In that case I probably wouldn't mind. Just seems like an unnecessarily huge amount of work though. The background is fine the way it is, nice and uniform for all. I doubt anyone would make a big deal about wanting their own colored background.
