Cheat's Big Suggestion Thread

A mere post cannot contain what I have to say, so I am making a thread instead to talk about improving the site (mostly on mobile).

Important Suggestions

• Conserve space on mobile by replacing the logo with the Sep7agon symbol, like we had before.
  Isara: Done by 2.2.0a update.
  
• Move search bar and options to dropdown on mobile, and make it take up the whole screen for easy use and visibility.
  Isara: Search button will be moved in menu drop down, and the PM message will stay there. Possible release will be with version 2.2.0b.
• Elevate the nav bar's z-index so that the "who liked this post" shade doesn't cover it, preventing escaping from the window on mobile.
  Isara: Cheat did this himself, but the truth is that z-index will not work on some cases and browsers, but it's better than nothing.
• Redesign the notification button and placement (see details below)

Regarding Notifications

The current setup doesn't work on mobile very well. Small screen sizes and the tiny button makes it odd to use, so here's what I suggest:

Move notifications to its own icon, like it was on the old site design, and place it before the PM icon. This prevents accidental presses of the avatar dropdown and makes it simpler to keep track of new quotes and alerts.

Personal Preference Suggestions

• Move the "new topic" button row back to the right. It's weird being where it is; I can't believe I didn't catch this until now.
• Add a [close window] button under the like window so that people on mobile don't rage.
• On desktop, position the search bar more to the left and double its width.

I'm sure more will follow when I think of them...

...should be at the bottom of the page too.

I already commented on this in the other thread, but I do plan on changing the front page around to my liking. This will probably involve scrapping the forum list and moving it to its own page (like bungie has, when you click "forums").

Crossed out things that are done, or that are about to be done. I'll tackle on the rest of what people submit here later this week.

Pinned threads will likely go on the right, but inside the container. Bookmarked threads (if I ever get it working) will stay within your profile. They're easier to manage there and it keeps the rest of the forum look nice and neat.

I did it in like 5 seconds dude, no offence taken... I just thought all that empty space needed filling, and it kept everything seperate so you could tell what's what.

How about a "My Profile" banner for the profiles, instead of the Index banner?

I always liked bungie's mobile app, hence the similar design, even if their main site sucks.

Instead of "Bookmarks" win the dropdown when I hover over my avatar in the top right, how about a "Buddy" link?

Why would you need a link to the buddy list? Bookmarks would be way more useful.

When there's a load of people online, buddies don't stand out enough for me easily see who on my buddy list is online.
When we had the "Who's Online" function it was simple, but now it isn't.
The bookmarks don't do anything anyway, that's why I suggested replacing the link, adding another works too.

It's absurd that a few people's complaints overrode the any chance of a vote on the matter by the other ~160 active members.

Hey Cheat! I'm not sure if anyone else uses the "tapachat" app, but I've noticed spoilers don't work at all. Either they either don't hide said "spoiler" or it contains nothing and there is no spoiler button to press. Most likely the apps fault and out of your derestriction just thought I'd bring it up. Also, when a user's continuously quote one another it looks like this:

I'll have to try it out, although I do hate iPhone's mobile web browser. Even the chrome sucks and lags out. Le sigh.

He just hates SMF and thinks the one he uses is better. He believes that Sep7 was very easy to design and that he could do it easily, when really he has no idea that you heavily modified all this with your own source code.

Replace the words "whole career" with "pineapple".
