Here's the thing, however; memes go through four stages in their lifetime.

1) Actual intended meme
2) Everyone hating it
3) Ironically posting the meme
4) The meme dying off

The general use of memes right now just passed stage 2. I give it a year or two before it dies off into the nothingness like the really cringe-filled "rage" comics.

"Meme" is an insult, though.

"Dark Souls is a meme game."
"You have meme taste in films."
"Mechanical engineering is a meme degree."

It's as if you want to see this site die.
