Just a heads up, allowing an outlet for unmoderated shitposting doesn't prevent it in the mains, it just gradually undermines your authority as a moderator or admin until we get to the point where shitposting is tolerated and embraced by the foremost members of your site (as it is now).

This site layout is great, I just wonder whether you had any experience leading or moderating anything before, because the constant turbulence with rules and the huge interruption every weekend is a pretty poor way to run a forum. Admins complaining about their lives, moderators taking part in controversial discussions as well as the trolling efforts seen throughout the forums -- it's just bizarre. This site is experiencing the same trends that led to a mass exodus from B.Net.

Maybe I'm just not in on the joke, but I don't understand why you think it's okay to let people call each other niggers and faggots on the weekend. Frankly I'm embarrassed to be part of this community sometimes.

Because people want to? I don't see any problem with it, aside from stopping activity on the other baited to a halt.

I don't really use it because I don't particularly see the point of posting anon or saying 'fgt' or something. But the most recent one (With new rules) hasn't caused any dramas so I fail to see what is bad about it.

I neither fear, nor despise.
I do find it strange that mods participate in Anarchy and blend in so well.
Sure they are allowed to do it; and nothing is supposed to spill over, but it is simply like you said: 'bizarre"

Nothing has happened yet obviously, but what happened with Kiyo is just an example of how things can possibly go wrong.

Entirely agreed.

We knew the world would not be the same.
A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent.
I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita.
Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty
and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says,
"Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.."
I suppose we all thought that one way or another.
You're not the only one who has echoed "This is a bad idea!" Personally that was my immediate reaction for the first Anarchy, and then later after we dealt with the drama that spilled over.

Frankly yeah, you might be right that it's cased more shitposting and less obedience to the staff by some members. And as for the mods participating in the chaos, well...we're all people, you know? We're also all floodians, and you can't just take the flood out of the mod. There's also a certain fun element to basically have everyone on the same level, and no one above anyone. Aside from that, mods are entitled to their opinions, controversial or not.

Point being, it's fun. And this is an unruly bunch as it is anyway. What needs to be done (and it's already starting to happen), is the mods need firmer grips on their hammers. The main reason we have disobedient members is because they've realized that warnings mean nothing, and actual bans are very short. 1 day bans aren't going to cut it. It needs to be 3 days, a week, 2 weeks, a month, 2 months, etc. No more light slaps on the wrist.

Anyways, that's my two cents.

Hmm...
I wouldn't say the board was unmoderated; there were a few threads I locked personally, and there were plenty of others that were handled by the staff. October's Anarchy was pretty bad, but this one was rather lax.

I'm not one to regularly get into the heated topics, but just because someone is a staff member doesn't mean they should be unable to. Mods are held to a higher standard in regard to their posts, but that doesn't bar them from the serious topics or restrict their opinions.

It's true that the bad stuff seems to slip over into the mains after Anarchy/PP is over, which is why I am not sure just yet how to treat the next round (to remove it completely or to modify it).

I'm not sure if you noticed, but this forum never claimed to be at the forefront of mature discussion. Bungie was never a place for people to discuss their ideas seriously. There are forums for serious discussion, and there are forums, like this one, where nobody gives a shit what goes on because that's the point.

You will find out who you are not a thousand times, before you ever discover who you are. I hope you find peace in yourself and learn to love instead of hate.
Penguin Party was cool though, no serious harassment or problems were caused

I don't see the problem with Penguin Party at all. It's an optional subforum with very few rules. You don't have to go there.

Of course I don't; the point I made is that the behavior there isn't isolated and undermines the moderation on the rest of the forum.

the solution to the "problem" is for the mods to be more heavy handed outside of PP. easy fix.
