Gaming / Re: Can you name a worse year for gaming than 2016?
« on: November 07, 2016, 01:05:03 AM »
I'm not sure, I feel like each year got progressively worse overall. This year in particular was awful because all we got was Dark Souls III and a shitload of remasters (like, way more than usual). I think that will change with 2017 (except for the remasters, they're gonna keep milking that cow), we have some good stuff coming our way. I'm mainly excited for Mass Effect: Andromeda and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I'm still waiting for the trailer for the next Assassin's Creed because there have been a few rumors about the setting that are appealing to me, and the fact that they took 2016 off to add an extra year of development in their cycle is reassuring...I think. Halo 6 will probably come out at the end of 2017 as well, which I'll probably get for the story, if nothing else. I'm sure Rockstar will keep releasing stuff for GTA Online (which me and my friends still enjoy). There's probably some weeab exclusives coming out on the PS4 that people are super pumped for, idk.

EDIT: We may get a trailer for whatever project Rocksteady is working on, now that the Arkham series is concluded. Although, I think that's being a little optimistic.

You're forgetting resident evil 7. Best looking RE game since 4, I'm getting super hype off the teasers.
I've never been a fan of Resident Evil games, so I don't pay attention to them.

Assassin's Creed and its sequel were fairly decent at teaching history, moreso the second one. However, I'm sure you've already played them.

The game looks like a lot of fun, but I feel as though Nintendo isn't showing me what I want to see. They're focusing a lot on little things that you can do and not much else. They're going for a mysterious vibe with this title, and that worries me.

On one hand, it's a breath of fresh air (no pun intended) because the lore has been pretty heavy-handed in previous games. This would be rather nuanced for the series, which would be cool. However, many developers fail to pull off subtle lore-telling. Dark Souls did it best, and Destiny is one of the worst offenders of the strategy.

I actually got into Dark Souls over the summer. The first time I played through the game, I was getting destroyed. Every boss annihilated me numerous times before I eventually triumphed over them. After beating the game, I can just about nuke every boss on my first attempt.

Anyway, enough about me. Congratulations on defeating Ornstein and Smough, that was undoubtedly the hardest boss fight for me.

I don't think that a bad first installment should "get a pass", but I do believe that developer's deserve a second chance. You have to start somewhere, and not everyone strikes gold the first time. Mass Effect comes to mind. I love that universe, but the first game is the weakest, in my opinion. That being said, ME 1 wasn't a bad installment, so maybe that doesn't exactly apply to what you're getting at.

Gaming / Re: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time review
« on: October 03, 2016, 01:13:18 AM »
I've been playing Zelda games for as long as I can remember, I even make it a yearly ritual to binge through OoT, WW, TP, and SS (I actually don't enjoy MM that much). OoT was the first Zelda game I played, and it was also the first game I had ever beaten on my own (other than easy games such as Pokemon Blue). After over a decade of experience with this game, my opinion on its quality has changed slightly over the years.

I don't think I can form an unbiased opinion on its graphics because I grew up with the game. I do agree with the statement that while it is naturally dated, the textures are clear, so any new player should be able to understand what's happening. Side note: I actually prefer to play OoT through the Virtual Console rather than the 3DS remaster. I prefer the classic textures and art style over OoT3D's rendition.

Movement and combat in any video game is like a fetish to me. If my character's movement is fluid and the game allows me to dodge attacks (with a little style, for good measure), I'll probably enjoy the game. For Zelda games, this is no different. I believe that many of the console Zelda games allow the player to move freely during combat. The problem with Ocarina of Time, however, is the waiting. If you've seen Egoraptor's 'Sequelitis' on OoT, you know exactly what I'm talking about. A good portion of the enemies and bosses in OoT require you to wait for a certain amount of time, then attack. To avoid this, many third-person games have implemented things like shield-bashing, parrying, countering, etc. Unfortunately, OoT was not ahead of the curve. While the combat is slow, I believe that the movement is actually quite fluid (once you develop a natural feeling for the game's physics).

The story is good enough for what it needs to be. Few Zelda games provide a compelling story, but OoT's is decent. The most interesting plot point is when OoT Link's origin is explained to him by the Great Deku Sprout. The idea of a mother delivering her newborn son to safety before dying in a civil war is pretty goddamn metal for Nintendo. Sure enough, the significance of this event is trumped by the fact that there are bigger things to worry about. I'm a sucker for personal stories, so I always was annoyed by the fact that Link never bothered to investigate his past further.

The dungeons and temples in OoT are very, very memorable for me. I always have fun running through them as fast as I can, simply because I know each one like the back of my hand (including the infamous Water Temple). However, Lord Jabu Jabu's belly is lame, the Forest Temple is boring, and the Shadow Temple should have been much longer.

The soundtrack was good I guess, I can listen to every song in my head if I wanted to. I have no real opinion on the music simply because there is too much nostalgia-factor for me. I guess that mean's it's catchy, which is a good thing.

Navi never annoyed me, even as a kid. People often exaggerate how much she interrupts you, but she's probably the least annoying companion Link has ever had. Fi in Skyward Sword was way worse.

Gaming / Best Headset for Xbox One/PC?
« on: September 23, 2015, 05:10:34 PM »
My pair of Turtle Beach X42's are finally starting to die out, I'm in dire need of a new headset. I was wondering if I should get another pair of Turtle Beaches, go with the Stereo Xbox One headset, or maybe try a different brand entirely. What do you use? I'm mainly concerned about the headset being Xbox One compatible, bonus points if it also connects to PC.

I love watching MatPat's theories, they're so batshit insane it's unbelievable. What people need to understand is that his videos aren't meant to establish new canon, they're just silly fun that happens when you overanalyze something.

Honestly, I think I'm done with Pokemon. I got Alpha Sapphire and it was really boring. I think I've just played all of them so much that the formula has finally gotten to monotonous for me. Same with Assassin's Creed.

Literally any line in Destiny.
Just about all of Cortana's dialogue in CE.
Anything Miranda Keyes has ever said in 2/3.

The Armored Kuruma is undoubtedly the most versatile vehicle in the game.
+maximum protection
+is a proper Sports car in terms of performance
+unique ramming capabilities
+looks good
+four seats
-can't use Sticky Bombs or Grenades
-shooting in the front seats only grants a 180 degree FOV

Are you playing CE using the original game? You'd probably have a better experience on the MCC (if you have an Xbone). 60fps+1080p+Anniversary retexturing.

I think the devs said in an interview that they wanted Fallout 4 to be more colorful to more accurately represent the wasteland. So I think we'll be seeing more nature.

Why is it that people love to suck the Sports genre's dick so much?

"Hey guys, look! We updated our roster!"
"Oh EA thank you so very much! Please fuck me up the ass and mug me!"

Not really. Star Wars has never been compelling to me, I don't understand why people get so hyped up for it.

Who's writing it? If it's by Karen Travissty, no thanks.

The Flood / Re: should i upgrade to windows 10?
« on: August 19, 2015, 05:51:49 PM »
I don't see why not. I've had a highly positive experience with the upgrade. It didn't take very long to update, and the program itself is as clean and quick as Microsoft says it is. But if you are still worried, you have a year to update before it gets a pricetag.

Gaming / Re: Your current go to games?

GTA V
Batman Arkham Knight
Destiny (unfortunately)

Can't wait for good games to come out so I don't have to continue playing shit. Halo 5, Fallout 4 (PC) and Rise of the Tomb Raider will all be a welcome break from my current monotonous cycle of gaming.

26
Be careful what you wish for. Developers tend to flop when pursuing projects that are "different". Especially Nintendo, they love artistic failure.

27
None.

You can be an atheist without being an asshole about it.
